Job description

We are seeking a Veterinary Scientist with expertise in drug development to support our research and development (R&D) programs in Animal Health. This position focuses on advancing novel therapeutics and pharmaceuticals from early discovery through development and regulatory approval. The ideal candidate will possess strong scientific acumen and industry experience to guide cross-functional teams and contribute to the success of our pipeline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Drug Development and Study Oversight
• Design, implement, and manage preclinical and nonclinical studies to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics of candidate drugs for veterinary use.
• Solid comprehension of the veterinary drug development process.
• Contribute clinical support to generating protocols, study reports, and other needed documentation needed to execute studies. 
• Experience in companion animal clinical pharmaceutical development research. 
• Analyze and interpret experimental data to support decision-making and project milestones.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure studies meet scientific and regulatory standards.
• Work closely with formulation, clinical, and regulatory teams to align drug development efforts with broader organizational goals.
• Generating protocols, study reports, and other needed documentation needed to execute the studies.
• Training of study team for the conduct of pre-clinical and clinical studies. 
• Identification of sites for preclinical and clinical veterinary studies.
• Monitor pre-clinical and clinical studies located at veterinary hospitals, clinics, academic research organizations, and clinical research organizations. 
• Establish and maintain collaborations with academic institutions, industry partners, and key opinion leaders to drive innovation.
• Participation in Veterinary Medicine educational programs and stay current with advancements in drug development technologies, veterinary science, and competitive market trends
• Contribute to the strategic planning of the R&D portfolio by identifying unmet needs and novel therapeutic opportunities in veterinary medicine.
• Ensure all activities comply with relevant regulations, guidance and industry standards.
• Ability to identify and assess models for drug development efficacy. 
• Ability to review and correlate literature to appropriate research. 
• Present study results and strategic updates to leadership teams and external partners.
• Perform any other tasks/duties as assigned by management.


Education Requirements, Experience, and Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 
• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology, Microbiology, Toxicology, Biology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Science, or related disciplines required.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in preclinical and clinical development in Veterinary Medicine or Animal Health is required.
• Proven track record of managing preclinical studies and contributing to regulatory filings (e.g., INAD, NADA, MUMS).
• Strong expertise in study design, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology.
• Experience as a scientific project team leader.  Ability to manage complex operations and projects under accelerated timelines
• Proficient conducting data analysis and working with data reporting tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a matrix environment
• Experience in collaborating with external academic institutions and Contract Research Organizations.
• Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to make decisions independently and with appropriate input.
• Flexibility in adapting to multiple therapeutic areas interchangeably.
• Proficient in MS Office suite of applications with particular emphasis in MS Word and MS Excel.  
• Up to 25% travel may be required

Expected Salary Range:

$124,000 - 145,000

The salary range, is the  minimum and maximum annual salary range of compensation for the role that the employer in good faith believes to be accurate at the time of the posting of an advertisement for the role.  Actual compensation for the role will be based on a number of different factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, education, knowledge, skills and experience.
