The Opportunity
The Radar Maintenance Manager will coordinate, oversee, and carry out the Maintenance Program for LeoLabs’ global network of operational radar sites, ensuring the ongoing upkeep, reliability, and sustainability of our network. In order to be most effective, this role requires a strong background in electrical or computer engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in a related field.
 
The Radar Maintenance Manager will take the leading role in managing and supporting other maintenance team members, who assist with general radar site maintenance and provide technical on-site support. In addition to maintaining the current radar network, the engineer will also contribute actionable feedback for the re-design and improvement of existing and future radar components.
 
This position forms an integral part of the LeoLabs Global Infrastructure team, working closely with Radar Operations Engineers to diagnose and resolve operational maintenance issues. The Global Infrastructure team is responsible for the overall health, safety, and maximum hardware uptime availability of the LeoLabs radar network though planned and reactive maintenance.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy leading the design of detailed, operational processes incorporating cross-functional teams’ stakeholder feedback, and take pride in maintaining cutting-edge radar systems to the highest industry standards.
 
Key Responsibilities
·       Streamlined maintenance planning and execution - Lead maintenance planning and execution to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency, thereby supporting the larger Radar Group in meeting radar performance SLOs effectively
·       Thorough documentation and redundancy implementation – Develop and update comprehensive documentation for the processes necessary to properly prioritize and plan for maintenance activities, providing valuable resources for training and knowledge sharing. As well, you will be responsible for contributing detailed maintenance plans, on occasion, as part of radar sales proposal responses
·       Collaboration with Hardware Team - Work closely with the hardware team to provide feedback for engineering and design efforts to continue strengthening LeoLabs’ competitive position in the market.Visit LeoLabs HQ in Menlo Park California on a regular basis to ensure efficient and effective growing of your knowledge base for LeoLabs’ extensive internally designed radar technology product line
·       Inventory control – Work with the LeoLabs’ Supply Chain Management team during planned maintenance cycles to order material, building an understanding of certain component lead times. Keep track of the current inventory to ensure early ordering of critical items as needed
·       Monthly site status reporting – Organize, lead and manage maintenance reporting on all our radar sites. Managing critical maintenance tasks, reactive and planned maintenance trips
·       Single point failure analysis – Identify critical vulnerabilities, implement mitigation strategies, and enhance radar system resilience
·       Manage and mentor maintenance team - Within the LeoLabs maintenance team, provide guidance, oversight, and support to ensure efficient maintenance operations and continued professional development
·       Enhance existing forecasting and manage maintenance cost tracking – Supervise the forecasting and cost tracking for radar site maintenance activities to optimize financial resources and reduce reliance on external consultants
 
 
Qualifications (Mandatory)
·       B.S., M.S in electrical or computer engineering or equivalent experience is acceptable
·       Advanced knowledge of power systems, electrical systems, HVAC units
·       Experience with creating routine maintenance plans for sustained upkeep of similar operational sites
·       Familiar with responding to and creating maintenance tickets, bringing onsite issues to resolution in order of priority while maximizing efficiencies
·       Experience with inventory systems and documenting meantime between failure for existing equipment
·       Creating process and procedure for maintenance activities
·       An ability to travel nationally and internationally to conduct maintenance activities in remote locations, at short notice
·       Driving record allows for the ability to rent cars internationally
 
Qualifications (Desirable)
·       Background working in data centers or satellite ground stations
·       Experience with Solidworks, CAD, or similar programs
·       Knowledge of PDM systems and Bill of Materials
 
 
Within 1 month, you will:
·       Complete our comprehensive onboarding program, gaining an understanding of LeoLabs' business, vision, and team structure
·       Learn how your role as Radar Maintenance Manager fits into the broader LeoLabs organization and its global objectives
·       Begin familiarizing yourself with the fundamentals of LeoLabs’ Global Radar Network, including key components and operational processes
·       Travel to an existing radar site to assist with ongoing upgrades and maintenance, gaining hands-on experience with the systems you’ll manage
 
Within 3 months, you will:
·       Develop an in-depth understanding of the operation and maintenance needs of our radar sites
·       Establish relationships with key stakeholders across teams to ensure alignment on maintenance objectives and timelines
·       Execute standard maintenance procedures across multiple sites, ensuring effective troubleshooting and system reliability
·       Travel to one or more existing radar site to assist with ongoing upgrades and maintenance, gaining hands-on experience with the systems you’ll manage
·       Start building detailed maintenance plans for existing radar sites, tailoring them to specific site requirements and operational goals
 
Within 6 months, you will:
·       Create and maintain a comprehensive repository of current radar components critical items and failure tracking, optimizing inventory management
·       Actively contribute to the development of maintenance processes and procedures to streamline operations and improve efficiency
·       Travel to multiple radar locations, overseeing maintenance activities and upgrades while identifying potential areas for improvement
·       Support Director Global Infrastructure, with input to strategic planning around improvement process and strategies to continue to evolve the radar maintenance priorities
·       Provide support to Director Global Infrastructure and the LeoLabs go-to-market team regarding any maintenance procedures and details required for input to any radar sales proposals and contract documentation

Within 12 months, you will:
·       Take full ownership of developing and managing the maintenance program for LeoLabs global radar network, ensuring optimal system performance and minimal downtime
·       Lead and mentor your maintenance team, guiding them in executing complex maintenance tasks and troubleshooting site-specific issues
·       Proactively identify and address single point failures and implement strategies to enhance the overall resilience of the radar network
·       Finalize the development and implementation of a comprehensive inventory control system to streamline material ordering and reduce critical component shortages.
·       Deliver a detailed maintenance report, showcasing key achievements and areas for continued improvement across all radar sites
·       Collaborate closely with hardware and engineering teams, providing actionable feedback on radar system designs and enhancements
·       Travel to various international radar locations to conduct high-level maintenance, manage site status reports
·       Continuously refine forecasting and cost-tracking methods for ongoing site maintenance, optimizing financial and resource efficiency
