Role Summary
The Head of MarComms is responsible for how the organization communicates its identity and activities to the external world. This includes defining and evolving the organization brand, informing the
broader public about the organization work, leading marketing campaigns, overseeing the development of content to describe and disseminate our project outputs, and managing an up-to-date and engaging website.
Key responsibilities include:
1) Brand Definition & Communications Strategy
- Directly responsible for defining the organization's brand standards including Brand architecture and positioning, Visual Identity, Tone and Style guidelines.
- Define target audiences (in collaboration with other go-to-market verticals) and prioritize the role and manner of communications needed to effectively reach and cultivate a relationship with each priority audience.
- Setting and manage to OKRs for Communications.
2) Content Development
- Accountable for overall quality through management of team members portfolios, editing and refining content.
- Development and evolution of library of thought leadership, project case studies, and insights for use across channels.
- Production of written, video, audio, and digital content, helping creators to shape narratives and edit for substance and tone.
- Execution of editorial calendar over the course of the year.
3) Corporate Communications & Marketing : Accountable for overall quality through management of team members executing:
- Execution of paid marketing spend, planned campaigns, and PR Development and maintenance of organization website.
- Tracking of ROI of marketing spend to maximize impact.
- Directly responsible for overall marketing strategy.
4) Vertical Stewardship:
- Oversee performance and direction of the Vertical staff including line management of Senior Managers.
- Set clear vertical priorities in line with organization strategic direction.
- Set and manage vertical budgets.
- Mentor, guide, train all team members in relevant verticals to ensure they are performing at their best.
- Build norms and systems to ensure wellbeing, diversity, equity, and inclusion are prioritized within relevant verticals day to day work.
- Lead recruitment, redressal of employee grievances, and growth of team members.
- Manage the managers and senior managers and maintain skip level relations to be in touch with team sentiment.
5) Communication (internal and external)
- Represent the organization at national and international academic and non-academic conferences, workshops, and other relevant forums.
- Ensure effective and timely internal communication within the communications team and across other verticals, keeping all stakeholders aligned and informed.
- Engage with global partners to form productive collaborations, extending research impact across borders.
- Ensure awareness and buy in of vertical work across the organization.
6) Leadership Responsibilities
- Behave as a custodian and role model for organization values, ethos and culture.
- Involved in strategy discussions and goal-setting for the entire organization.
- Contributes actively in leadership team meetings, working with their peers to align planning and solve for org-wide issues.
- Spends time on leadership team tasks around organizational systems, processes, and talent management.
- Thinks critically about how they can contribute to the future of the organization and acts on the same.
- Takes ownership in noticing and solving issues regarding culture and norms.
- Recommends best practices that can be adopted by other verticals.
- Is the voice of their vertical(s) within the leadership team.
- Understands org-wide budgeting and works to optimize cost efficiency in their vertical.
- Actively works to get feedback and expand their knowledge, leadership abilities and technical skills.
