Course Description:

Exercising leadership and using strategic thinking to develop a culture of innovation are foundational aspects of the role of a healthcare executive. The course offers students an opportunity to understand key aspects of Leadership based on research, theory and practice. Students will assess their own leadership style and consider how to build and adapt their current leadership style for greater impact. Experienced and successful healthcare executives will share insights concerning their leadership journey and the lessons they have learned.
The course will examine how cultures of innovation are formed, barriers and enablers to innovation and how leadership skills and strategic thinking can be applied within healthcare organizations. Students will consider how they can impact their organizations through their leadership style, their ability to think strategically and how to drive innovation within the Canadian healthcare system.

Must have an MBA/MHA or Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in an area directly related to the practice of leadership in healthcare organizations. Must demonstrate recent professional experience in the field of healthcare management or healthcare delivery. Must possess sound knowledge of the current issues related to the application of strategy and innovation within healthcare. This course is delivered primarily asynchronously. Demonstrated experience in the development and/or delivery of asynchronous course content would be considered an asset.
