About the Role

Bird is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Total Rewards to lead the development and execution of our global rewards philosophy. Reporting to the VP, People, this role will oversee all aspects of compensation, equity, benefits, wellness, and perks—ensuring our programs are competitive, equitable, scalable, and aligned with Bird’s values and growth.

This leader will play a key role in designing and delivering a compelling total rewards strategy that attracts, motivates, and retains top talent globally. The ideal candidate is a data-driven rewards expert who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and who brings both empathy and rigor to how we reward our people.

Reporting Relationship: The role reports to the Vice President, People, who reports to the CEO.

This role leads Total Rewards globally across Bird with teams across N. America & Europe.

Key Responsibilities

1. Total Rewards Strategy & Leadership
  • Design, refine, and lead Bird’s global Total Rewards strategy to support talent attraction, motivation, and retention.
  • Align compensation, equity, benefits, and wellness programs with business goals and our People-first culture.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, and business leaders to ensure strategic alignment and budgetary compliance.
    Serve as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor to the VP, People and Executive team on all rewards matters.
2. Global Benefits, Perks & Wellness
  • Oversee and continuously improve global health, wellness, and perks programs to ensure competitiveness, compliance, and employee engagement.
  • Partner with the Manager, Global Benefits & Wellness on vendor management, renewals, benchmarking, and plan optimization.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and scale wellbeing initiatives in a distributed, remote-first environment.
3. Compensation & Pay Programs
  • Lead global compensation initiatives including market mapping, job architecture, and benchmarking for new and evolving roles using tools like Radford, Pave, and internal benchmarking frameworks.
  • Own and drive the compensation process for Bird’s Annual Performance Review Cycle (Bird Performance Review / BPR), including merit and promotion planning, in partnership with Finance and People Business Partners.
  • Manage salary bands, job leveling, and internal pay equity reviews, ensuring a scalable and transparent approach to compensation.
  • Partner with Finance and Legal to ensure all programs meet local compliance requirements and align with Bird’s compensation philosophy.
  • Leverage systems such as BambooHR (HRIS), Radford, Pave, Google Suite, Zendesk, and Greenhouse to support workflow, decision-making, and documentation.
4. Equity Strategy & Administration
  • Own the end-to-end administration and strategy of compensation, benefits & equity programs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with business goals.
  • Lead equity planning cycles, including refreshes and off-cycle grants, and partner with Legal and Finance on program design and execution.
  • Build tools, documentation, and employee education materials to increase understanding and transparency of programs across levels.
  • Support executive compensation planning and Board-level reporting on total rewards and equity strategy
5. Insights, Governance & Compliance
  • Use data and analytics to monitor the effectiveness of rewards programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, policies, and processes that ensure program governance, scalability, and compliance.
  • Support internal audits, due diligence, and compensation-related disclosures as needed.
  • Leverage the People Tech Stack to support program design, execution, analytics, and employee experience, including:
  • HRIS & People Systems: BambooHR, ADP, Ceridian Dayforce
  • Compensation & Benchmarking: Radford, Pave
  • Recruiting & Performance: Greenhouse, Lattice
  • Service & Knowledge Management: Zendesk, Confluence
  • Collaboration & Analytics: Google Suite (Sheets, Slides, Docs), custom dashboards and reporting tools
6. Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Manage and develop a high-performing total rewards team with a culture of service, ownership, and continuous learning.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Legal, Talent Acquisition, and People Business Partners.
  • Act as a thought partner and internal consultant to People team colleagues and business leaders across the organization.

What You Bring

  • REQUIRED: 10+ years of progressive experience in Total Rewards, including compensation, benefits, wellness, and equity program management including 3+ years in a people management role with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
  • REQUIRED: Experience at both large-scale public companies and smaller-scale start-up private environments required 
  • Deep expertise in compensation strategy, salary benchmarking, pay equity, and global benefits programs.
  • Experience supporting international populations and operating in a remote-first, fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to present insights and influence executive stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with equity administration tools and practices in private and/or public companies.
  • Working knowledge of employment and tax regulations that impact compensation and benefits globally.
  • Exceptional communication and project management skills, with a passion for improving the employee experience.
