Job description

Waymark is a team of healthcare providers, technologists, and builders whose mission is enable greater health among individuals with Medicaid benefits. Guided by the communities we serve, we bring support and technology-enabled care to help primary care providers keep Medicaid patients healthy. We are building the tools and designing an approach to enable care to reach the patients who can benefit most. Our core values embody the essence of what makes Waymark a unique team today, and what we look for, nurture, and sustain as a team. We are bold builders, believing that the greatest challenges in care delivery can be solved when we harness the power of community and technology. We are humble learners, seeking feedback and perspectives different from our own, and welcome challenges to our conclusions. We experiment to improve, actively seeking data to inform decisions and to assess our own performance. We act with focused urgency, our commitment to our mission drives us to tirelessly pursue results.

If this vision resonates with you, we’re confident you’ll find incredible fulfillment and impact here and hope you bring your creativity, your energy, your curiosity to Waymark.

About this Role

As a Therapy Manager, you will be a core member of a multidisciplinary care team that seeks to redefine care delivery to patients receiving Medicaid. You will provide remote behavioral health therapy to patients who experience a range of behavioral health conditions of varying acuity. You are expected to be competent at triaging patients to an appropriate level of care and in the delivery of common evidence-based behavioral health therapies (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy [CBT], problem solving treatment [PST], acceptance and commitment therapy [ACT], solution-focused behavioral therapy [SFBT]). Because stigma and competing priorities make it challenging for among many of the individuals we serve to benefit from therapy, we organize and train teams to leverage a single session approach to engaging patients in therapy, while also making time-limited longitudinal treatment (i.e. three to four months) available to those who have a need and are positioned to reliably engage and benefit. Our therapists and teams help patients who are poor fits for tele-therapy connect with and benefit from services in the community.

In addition to providing direct patient care, you will oversee Waymark’s therapy care model in your market, which includes proactively contacting individuals at high risk of acute behavioral health care needs, coordinating with Waymark’s interdisciplinary care team (community health workers, pharmacists, care coordinators), interfacing with patients’ primary care teams and building relationships with community behavioral health resources. As a leader in a growing organization, you will play an active role in hiring and training, mentorship, support, resourcing and informing how we design, structure, and implement our therapy care model in Virginia.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Deliver psychosocial treatments and behavioral interventions for disorders common in the Medicaid population and amenable to remote behavioral health treatment (e.g., treatment for depressive and anxiety disorders, trauma, insomnia, chronic pain, substance use disorder etc.) via evidence-based time-limited therapeutic relationships.
  • Provide direct telephonic and SMS-based outreach to individuals on Medicaid who are likely to benefit significantly from behavioral health care (e.g., following recent behavioral health admission).
  • Help CHWs, pharmacists and care coordinators apply behavioral health tools (e.g., motivational interviewing) to support patients’ behavioral changes to improve health.
  • Participate in QI activities to promote increasingly high quality, cost-effective, and high value care (e.g., inform refinement of analytic dashboards, process improvement activities, documentation of internal workflows).
  • Triage behavioral health needs as they arise (e.g., reports of suicidal ideation).
  • Supervise and lead other therapists in your market; includes clinical and operational support (e.g., monitoring and supporting adherence to proven workflows, providing education, supporting professional growth of direct reports).
  • Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders (e.g., primary care providers, psychiatrists) to help patients receive comprehensive care.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep commitment to improving healthcare for underserved populations.
  • 3+ years post-Master’s-degree experience delivering evidence-based psychosocial treatments to patients with behavioral health needs.
  • 2+ years in a clinical supervisory role.
  • Alignment with Waymark’s core mission and values.
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP). Waymark is willing to sponsor Virginia state licensing in select instances.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate in writing, in-person and virtually in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Must reside in Virginia, greater Richmond preferred. Virginia active license in good standing required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting underserved populations with a spectrum of behavioral health needs.
  • Experience in community mental health, hospital/medical social work, inpatient behavioral health, or case management.
  • Experience and familiarity with behavioral health services in the Richmond or Hampton Roads area
  • Experience delivering single session interventions (also known as single session therapy, single session thinking or single session consultations).
  • 3+ years experience delivering CBT, DBT, PST, SFBT, or ACT.
  • Experience developing policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the Collaborative Care Model of care.
