Job description

WHO WE ARE:

ActBlue is a nonprofit that builds tech and infrastructure for Democratic campaigns, progressive-aligned causes, and people trying to make an impact to fuel long-term, people-powered change. If you’ve ever given online to a Democrat or progressive organization, chances are you’ve used our powerful online fundraising platform.

We put power in the hands of small-dollar donors and help thousands of groups — from presidential candidates to environmental organizations — build grassroots movements. We envision a democracy where everyone looking to make a people-powered change can easily and effectively deploy their resources, energy, and creativity to shape our country and future. Every one of us, from the political activists to the tech innovators to the customer service pros, is fully committed to our mission.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As a Software Engineer II, you will be pivotal on a newly formed team focused on delivering new fundraising capabilities. In this role, you will work full-stack using React, TypeScript, and Ruby on Rails. The work you do on this team will be seen and felt by thousands of users across the country and the world.

Our engineering and product organization comprises about 100 empathetic and passionate people. We’re organized into cross-functional teams that operate independently in alignment with the broader organizational goals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Collaborate with software engineers, product teams, and design teams to develop new features for donors and fundraising entities of all sizes.
  • Design products and systems with performance in mind so all users have a great experience on our platform.
  • Work across the stack using React, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, and GraphQL.
  • Improve platform performance and maintainability through quality code, testing, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Ensure product and feature quality through thorough PR reviews and QA testing.
  • Engage with and contribute to technical discussions around new solutions and architecture.
  • Grow as an individual and increase your impact on the success of your team and the progressive movement with the support of your manager.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture aligned with our values.

WHAT YOU BRING:

Here is a non-exhaustive list of things we’re looking for:

  • 3+ years or equivalent of professional experience working as a team member and delivering projects.
  • Professional development experience with React and Ruby on Rails.
  • A track record of delivering timely, high-quality features while collaborating with product and design to resolve ambiguity and prioritize high-impact work.
  • A demonstrated ability to write extensible, maintainable, and scalable code.
  • Expertise and creativity when it comes to delivering value fast, with a focus on MVPs, frequent deployments, scope negotiations, and demos.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability. You care about helping your team deliver their roadmap and achieve the strategic outcomes of the work.
  • An inclusive and empathetic working style, particularly in a remote and distributed work environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow your skills as an engineer for all parts of the stack.
  • A passion for software and ActBlue’s mission to build people-powered movements.

BONUS POINTS IF…:

  • You are proficient with GraphQL
  • You are proficient with Typescript
  • You are proficient with Postgres
