Job description

Title: Security Engineer 

Location: USA/Remote 

Reports to: Chief Information Security Officer 

FLSA Classification: Exempt  

Full-Time  

Salary Range: $120,000 to $150,000 

* Starting pay varies based on location and experience, in compliance with specific state wage regulations. Competitive rates tailored to your geography and expertise.  

 

 

Position Overview: The Security Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security infrastructures to protect our company's IT systems, networks, and data. This role demands a strong understanding of security technologies, threat intelligence, and incident prevention measures. The ideal candidate will have experience in security architecture, risk management, and proactive security measures to safeguard our organization. 

 

Key Responsibilities: Participates in and completes tasks associated with implementing systems and network security technologies; executes testing plans; coordinates and prepares reporting of data security events and incidents; provides system and network architecture support; provides technical support to business and technology associates; and resolves trouble on complex issues. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Security Architecture & Design: Design, build, and maintain secure network infrastructures and systems, including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), VPNs, and encryption technologies.
  • Incident Prevention & Detection: Develop and implement strategies to prevent and detect security breaches, including configuring security tools, performing regular audits, and conducting penetration tests.
  • Vulnerability Management: Continuously assess system vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions to minimize exposure to cyber threats.
  • Security Automation: Implement automation processes for security operations, such as patch management, vulnerability scanning, and incident detection.
  • Risk Assessment: Perform risk assessments to identify security gaps, recommend appropriate measures to mitigate risks, and provide ongoing compliance support.
  • Collaboration & Training: Work closely with IT and other departments to integrate security best practices into all systems and workflows. Provide technical guidance and training to internal teams regarding security issues and best practices.
  • Incident Response Support: Provide technical expertise in responding to security incidents, including root cause analysis, mitigation, and post-incident reviews.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and present security reports to senior management, highlighting potential vulnerabilities, incidents, and the effectiveness of existing security measures.

 

Skills and Competencies: 

  1. Security Architecture & Engineering: Advanced understanding of designing, implementing, and managing secure IT infrastructures, including network security, encryption, and access control systems.
  2. Penetration Testing & Vulnerability Management: Proficient in conducting penetration tests and vulnerability assessments and applying patches and fixes to address identified weaknesses.
  3. Incident Prevention & Response: Expertise in creating incident response plans, threat detection, and response strategies, ensuring rapid containment and recovery from security incidents.
  4. Automation & Scripting: Knowledge of security automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) to streamline security operations and responses.
  5. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Understanding regulatory standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and NIST, with the ability to assess and mitigate security risks in compliance with those standards.

 

Requirements/Qualifications:  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum of5 years of experience in IT security engineering or related role, with demonstrated expertise in network security, risk management, and security architecture.
  • Expertise in security tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection, and encryption technologies. Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, etc.) is a plus.
  • Relevant industry certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, CTRP, CEH, or GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), are highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex security issues and mitigate risks effectively.
