Location: Egremont / Haydock / Westlake’s / Preston / Hybrid. Can work predominately remotely but will be required to travel to sites as part of Sales aspect

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an experienced Business Development Director to join our dynamic team at SyntheSys Defence Systems.

Delkia has recently acquired SyntheSys Defence Limited (now SyntheSys Defence Systems) a distinguished provider of Interoperability and Tactical Data Link (TDL) solutions, with over 30 years of proven expertise and service excellence in the industry.

With SyntheSys' established history of service excellence and technical expertise, a new position has opened within SyntheSys for a Business Development Director to lead on the acceleration of the Group’s joint advancements in:

  • Secure, real-time communication for mission-critical environments
  • Enhanced interoperability for multi-platform and multi-national operations
  • Advanced data processing and network integration for the defence and aerospace sectors

Overview of the role:

As our new Business Development Director, you will lead the SyntheSys drive in sales growth and the maximising of profitability across the Group’s joint portfolio in Tactical Data Links Test, Trial, Training and Evaluation. In this role, you will be the focal point for all Sales and Business Development within SyntheSys and by using your technical expertise, you will highlight SyntheSys’ value propositions and be at the forefront of building meaningful customer relationships and fuelling the Groups growth in the Tactical Data Links sector.

This is a senior position in the Group and the aspiration is that, in time, this role will evolve into a General Manager (GM) position leading SyntheSys.

What you’ll be responsible for: 

  • Drive profitable sales growth for current and new customers within the SyntheSys portfolio
  • Own and develop multilevel entry points and relationships with customer target accounts
  • Work closely with the Delkia Sales team to maximise Group offerings
  • Ensure opportunity progression in sales pipeline and conversion to revenue
  • Lead all SyntheSys Business Development activity which will involve navigating UK Defence Primes to identify new leads whilst nurturing existing contacts - using market information and networking to inform your approach
  • Manage key sales strategies in line with the Groups strategic direction to grow business in the Tactical Data Links sector and to actively seek intelligence to inform the Group’s Strategic plan
  • Identify, develop, and win new clients and business in the UK and NATO Tactical Data Links sector through portals, frameworks, business relationships and new ventures (innovation and technology focused)
    • This will include future business strategy development into wider markets in line with the Delkia Group Growth Strategy
  • Lead the tendering process and submit winning PQQ, bids, tenders and submissions.
  • Foster strong relationships with the customers through high quality and frequent customer face to face meetings
  • Hold a high level of technical and practical understanding of Tactical Data Links and apply this for commercial and customer interactions
  • Own the SyntheSys Sales forecast information reporting, initially, to the Delkia CSO
  • This senior position demands a candidate who is well organised, self-assured and able to work alone or as part of established teams. The successful candidate must also be competent in leading a team and as such integrity and reliability are essential for this role

What you’ll bring:

  • Must have an extensive knowledge of the Tactical Data Link sector, primarily in UK Defence.
  • Must have an extensive knowledge of the UK Defence Organisation (DE&S, MoD, Front Line Commands and supporting arms).
  • Have an engineering and/or operational background in Tactical Data Links to understand the context of the client’s demand
  • Must Be able to obtain or hold suitable security clearance and be a sole British National.
  • Understand the CADMID cycle and Defence Lines of Development

Nice to have:

  • Be incorporated, a Chartered Engineer or similar relevant professional body.
  • Have a working knowledge across the wider defence capability programmes.
