Job description

DIRECTV is seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Manager responsible for helping to create strategy and content for external communications and PR with a focus on writing, researching, and developing solid, actionable content in various formats for DIRECTV Insider to enhance discovery and consideration among new customers and reinforce the value proposition among current customers.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is a skilled communicator and an extraordinary writer with demonstratable experience in journalism, PR, or new media.
  • Is curious, persistent, and comfortable asking the right questions to get the information required to put together fully developed news content.
  • Is self-driven and comfortable working independently with little supervision – owning projects from start to finish.
  • Can turn complex stories into engaging and compelling content and think strategically to elevate storytelling.
  • Follows pop culture and current events to stay relevant among industry news and societal trends.
  • Is tech-savvy and used to working with Content Management Systems (CMS) to publish content.
  • Enjoys creating valuable content that appeals to diverse audiences, attracts customers, and boosts brand awareness and consideration.
  • Has at least a basic understanding of SEO best practices.
  • Is comfortable promoting creative ideas to the team, with the experience and knowledge to usher the ideas to execution.
  • Is comfortable working with partners internally and externally to create content that is informative, engaging, and compelling.

A plus if the candidate has:

  • A working knowledge of the pay-TV industry, specifically DIRECTV and its competitors.
  • Served as a corporate spokesperson in the past.
  • Strong media contacts in the industry and experience pitching.
  • A basic understanding of professional and college sports and local broadcast ownership dynamics.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Write, edit, proof, fact-check, and publish a variety of consumer-centric communications with a relentless focus on quality.
  • Work closely with internal partners across marketing, corp. comm, PR, social media, and more to take projects from conception to completion.
  • Lead content development and copywriting/messaging projects, including ideation, writing, and editing of materials; ensuring projects align with comprehensive company and business unit messaging and follow legal and brand guidelines.
  • Create various content types, including press releases, videos, bylines, social media posts, blogs, and more regularly.
  • Set up content, proofread, add assets, and publish within a CMS (e.g., WordPress).
  • Assure consistency for textual styles, pictures, fonts, and tones in the content.
  • Identify content gaps for high-value keywords, both untapped conversations and relative to competitors (research and education-based).
  • Become an expert on all things DIRECTV, and be able to be an ambassador for products, offers, and more.
  • Use SEO best practices to generate relevant high-potential traffic to our website.

Qualifications & skills needed for success in this role:

  • A writer and editor with 5+ years’ experience in digital media supported by a strong portfolio of high-quality work. A bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Strong, adaptable written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling content in a variety of styles and formats, including (but not limited to) press releases, emails, videos, blogs, employee communications, newsletters, videos, and speeches.
  • Ability to create and develop compelling stories about departmental activities for a mass external audience.
  • Capable of working both independently and in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to exercise good editorial judgment and discretion.
  • Deep understanding of branded content and how editorial can work to help achieve revenue goals.
  • Well-versed in creating online content and using a CMS to create, edit, publish, and track stories.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize performance data to inform and improve content creation and strategy.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to work independently and manage multiple ongoing projects.
  • Experience with SEO tools is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced working knowledge of Word.

May require a background check due to job duties requiring routine access to DIRECTV and DIRECTV customer’s proprietary data. Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction will be considered for employment in accordance with local ordinances and state law.

This role requires a minimum, but is not limited to, approximately 25% travel.

The Base Salary range displayed below reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for each of DIRECTV's 4 (four) US Labor Market Zones. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

DIRECTV WAGE ZONES: $79,420 - $144,210

Low (N1): $79,420 - $119,130

Mid (N2): $83,600 - $125,400

High (N3): $91,960 - $137,940

Top (N4): $96,140 - $144,210
