PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hiring salary $77,360 - $96,700/annually

Salary to be commensurate with experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position reports to the Manager of Marketing and primarily supports the golf and recreation divisions of the department through marketing, communications and public relations development.
  • Performs professional public/media relations, marketing and sponsorship/advertising sales duties for the Golf division and Recreation Programs within the recreation division and larger PROS department.  
  • Creates, edits, submits for approval, publishes and disseminates visually compelling and well-written communication materials across channels including but not limited to marketing/advertising, news releases/advisories, e-mail newsletters to patrons, event calendars, multi-page publications to enhance the image of the department and city of Aurora.
  • Serves as professional liaison and establishes communications with local, state, regional and national news media including but not limited to responding to media inquiries and being interviewed.
  • Attends special events, grand openings, tradeshows and other promotional activities as a representative of the department and city; this includes but not limited to public speaking presentations.
  • Assists in the administration of the department’s social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This includes but is not limited to a daily posting schedule, meeting or exceeding reach and engagement measures along with answering comments and messages from the community in a timely manner. Available on a rotating basis to share information and updates outside of normal business hours.
  • Assists with the maintenance and continued evolution of the department’s nearly 120 pages of the city website. This includes but is not limited to consistently updating information, assistance with design and quality control.
  • Assists with annual marketing budget of $100K.
  • Manages various workflow processes and performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Weekend, evening and holiday work will be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field

Experience:

  • At least five (5) years of professional level experience in marketing and brand management

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Driver’s License with a good driving record
  • Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in government, public sector, crisis communications and/or agency work
  • Previous experience writing for a variety of publications and purposes.
  • Speech writing experience.
  • Bilingual.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of promotion, marketing, and branding.
  • Knowledge of government and working in a governmental environment.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and printing process.
  • Knowledge of marketing analytics and measurement.
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Analytics.
  • Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends.

Skills: 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated capabilities in public relations including but not limited to media relations and public speaking.
  • Skill in use of social media platforms and website editing and management.
  • Strong AP-writing style experience and copy-editing.
  • Strong task and time management skills, balancing multiple assignments at once and adhering to deadlines.

Licenses and Certifications Required: 

  • Colorado Driver’s License with good driving history.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Light work that involves moving no more than 25 pounds at a time (during special events). Mainly sedentary at a desk most of the time.
    • Primarily sedentary physical work with seldom walking and standing.
    • May require frequent pushing, pulling, bending and stooping.
    • Clear vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents
    • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees, citizens, volunteers and the media.
    • Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard, carts and moveable shelving

Work Environment:

  • Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting with a program or events in varying weather conditions.

Equipment Used:

  • Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases as a part of the Library automated systems.
  • This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
