Gannett Fleming is searching for a talented Principal Civil Engineer for our National GDH practice. Join our team!

As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for technical and business aspects of the firm and may provide expert technical input and/or oversight on large, complex water resources projects. Expertise is required in dam and levee design/analysis, performance of dam safety studies and inspections, leadership and project management of technical project teams, and development of new client and project opportunities. This position also includes general civil engineering design and analysis on dam facilities including pump stations, gated and ungated water control structures, diversion dams, spillways, headworks, canals, flumes, and siphons. Expertise related to civil and structural engineering, dam and levee design, project management, and leading project teams is required.

We provide innovative solutions for dams, levees, reservoirs, spillways, pump stations, and water control structures. We have completed more than 1,000 water resource projects across the U.S. – from small-scale projects to large, complex dams, spillways, and gated water control structures.

This position can be based anywhere in the United States and can be 100% remote.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plans and determines scope, resources, schedule, and budget requirements for major and/or complex projects.
  • Independently designs and/or leads design teams to complete major projects.
  • Manages and leads major or multiple large projects with multi-disciplinary teams including subcontractors and/or subconsultants.
  • Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to evaluate, select, and apply techniques, procedures, and analyses necessary to successfully complete assigned projects.
  • Performs engineering during construction support services, including assisting client with bid activities, reviewing contractor submittals, and performing construction observation and evaluating field changes to ensure design intent.
  • Reviews completed project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Conducts business development to build a book of business. Generates leads, pursues new opportunities, and develops new markets/clients.
  • Builds and maintains client relationships, works to identify and understand client needs, and manages client expectations. Assists clients with risk evaluation and asset management.
  • Manages technical staff to build a high performing team that delivers an exceptional work product. Mentors the team in preparation for future challenges.
  • Develops new leadership techniques and/or improves existing processes.
  • Leads project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Represents the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Assigns tasks to and directs junior engineers, subconsultants, and technicians.
  • Supervises one or more technical staff.
  • Trains staff on use of specialty software or proprietary applications.
  • Assists senior management in implementing business programs and may manage organizational programs under the direction of senior management.
:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Fifteen (15) or more years of increasing responsibility and experience in civil engineering.
  • Experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Professional Engineering license in the United States, with an ability to acquire licensure in other states, as needed.
  • Expert-level knowledge of engineering concepts, theories and practices as applied to dam and levee design, water control structure design, and the implementation of large water resource projects.
  • Proficient in the preparation and review of engineering reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of Federal Civil Works programs is preferred.

Employment Status: Full-Time
Salary Range: $145,000 - $165,000
Salary dependent upon experience and geographic location
