Job Title: AS/400 Java API Developer (Content Manager Integration)

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Contract

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled AS/400 Java API Developer to lead the refactoring and rewriting of APIs that connect a client’s AS/400 system to Content Manager. The current implementation consists of hacked-together Content Manager APIs running on Windows, which need to be re-implemented in Java directly on the AS/400. This role requires an expert who can work closely with our development team during the initial discovery phase and provide technical guidance throughout the implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze existing Content Manager APIs running on Windows and define a strategy to migrate them to AS/400.
Design and develop new Java-based APIs on the AS/400 system for seamless integration with Content Manager.
Serve as the technical expert for our development team, providing guidance on best practices and implementation strategies.
Ensure that the new APIs are scalable, maintainable, and optimized for AS/400 performance.
Work closely with business analysts, architects, and developers to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Conduct code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning as needed.
Document all processes, API specifications, and technical decisions for future reference.

Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications:

5+ years of experience developing applications running on AS/400 (IBM iSeries, i5/OS).
Strong expertise in Java development
Experience with API development and integration in an enterprise setting.
Understanding of Content Manager and how it integrates with AS/400.
Experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP, and JSON/XML-based data exchange.
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize performance issues on AS/400.
Strong communication skills and ability to work as a trusted technical advisor for development teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience migrating APIs or applications from Windows-based environments to AS/400.
Familiarity with modern DevOps practices on AS/400, such as automation and CI/CD pipelines.
Prior experience with enterprise content management systems, particularly IBM Content Manager.
Knowledge of security best practices for AS/400 and API integrations.
