JOB SUMMARY:

As the HR Operations & Benefits Manager, you will directly lead day to day benefit operations within the Human Resources function at BioCryst Pharmaceuticals. Your daily interactions with leadership, HRBPs, functional HR groups, and owners is critical to ensuring a seamless, effective and enjoyable owner experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the efficient and effective implementation, communication, and administration of benefit and wellness programs. 
  • Participates in the benefit renewal process and oversees annual open enrollment. 
  • Conducts and participates in group benefits presentations, one-on-one consultations, wellness programs, intranet articles, etc.   
  • Manages day to date benefit questions and solutions via direct interaction with employees at all levels.   
  • Ensures accurate billing and reconciliation of all invoices, serving as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. 
  • Ensures compliance with applicable government regulations and timelines as well as the accuracy of required filings. 
  • Partners with Legal, Finance and Payroll functions as required regarding plan operations, plan funding, and accounting of the benefits budgets and billing. 
  • Monitors and updates employee benefits database. 
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations such as COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ERISA, GDPR. Prepare and file required legal reports (e.g., 5500s). 
  • Administer/oversee retirement plans such as 401(k), Canadian Retirement Plans and European pensions. 
  • Utilize MS Excel to analyze benefits usage data leveraging pivot tables as well as other Excel formulas and analysis tools to create Executive Summaries and detailed reporting appendices to support business decisions and cost management.
  • Prepares data for annual non-discrimination testing of 401(k) and FSA plans. 
  • Reviews and updates human resources benefit policies and procedures as needed. 
  • Oversees leave, disability, and workers compensation. Serves as a subject matter expert to Business Partners on all issues related to FMLA and other leaves of absence for medical, family and personal reasons in accordance with BioCryst policies and applicable state and federal regulations. 
  • Support and train junior staff in answering and resolving owner questions and processing benefit transactions
  • Process a high volume of transactions using standard operating procedures for multiple types of HR transactions, including hiring, personnel changes, reclassifications and related activities – as needed
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience in an HR operations and/or benefits role
  • Proven expertise and knowledge of industry trends, regulations and reporting requirements through Benefits related certifications and associations a plus
  • Firm understanding of human resources policies, procedures, PPACA, ADA, HIPPA requirements 
  • Experience with both US and Global benefit plans, preferably done in conjunction with a Global Benefits Broker
  • Extensive knowledge of the legal requirements of managing and delivering benefit plans in the US and Globally
  • Knowledge and experience administering state and federally mandated leaves (FMLA, CFRA, etc.)
  • Previous experience with fast-paced environments, where priorities shift and change
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite Products – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and very high degree of Learning Agility
  • A cheerful, team-oriented, adaptable, and can-do attitude
  • Experience working with Workday
  • The ability to work with and analyze large data sets to gain insights into trends, which can be leveraged to propose organizational and operational change
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects and meet highly aggressive deadlines
