POSITION SUMMARY

The Research Assistant will work with an inter-disciplinary team on a project, "Mobilizing Subjugated Knowledges for a Just and Inclusive Niagara – The Health Literacy Hub" at Brock University. This community-based project involves close collaboration with community partners, gathering data from community organizations and immigrant and refugee populations, co-creating impactful solutions, and disseminating findings.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Assistant will engage in research activities to support the project’s objectives, which includes, but is not limited to the following:

Conduct literature searches and synthesizing findings.
Participate in research activities utilizing different methods, such as document analysis and synthesis, individual interviews, focus groups, and survey questionnaires.
Assist and collaborate on processes to engage key stakeholders.
Participate in the drafting and editing of project reports and other written projects.
Assist with the preparation and/or presentation of findings and recommendations.
Support other research-related tasks as assigned.

Please Note: This position offers a flexible work environment. This includes working remotely for some tasks, in-person meetings, and in-person community engagement and research activities to fulfil key project objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will possess:

A bachelor’s degree in public health, life sciences, social sciences, or a related discipline.
Experience in community-based outreach and collaborative relationship building.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.

Preferred or asset skills:

Knowledge of health literacy principles or frameworks and the intersections of the social determinants of health.
Prior involvement in community-based research or outreach activities with immigrant and refugee populations.

COMPENSATION

This position is a one-year contract averaging up to 10 hours per week for 48 weeks, at a rate of $22.40 per hour, plus 14% benefits. A employee timesheet is required to submit hours for approval via the Brock University Workday system. The employee must obtain approval before exceeding these hours or working on statutory holidays.

Compensation is based on the Brock University Research Assistant Schedule, which aligns with employee qualifications and the minimum education required for the role.
