Job description

General Summary:

Velocity is seeking a Network Operations Engineer with a strong background in managed services to join our Network Operations team. The ideal candidate will assist Velocity in delivering a superior customer experience. This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing network services. The incumbent will interface with external service providers and customers to perform network analysis and management.

Velocity, A Managed Solutions Company, operates many diverse and vendor agnostic networks. The incumbent in this role will be responsible for quickly understanding and operating on these networks, using existing documentation and independent discovery of environments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary escalation contact for Network Operations Center (NOC)
  • Provide expertise in network-based technologies, supporting our national managed services network
  • Perform design work that incorporates industry best practices for hospitality and enterprise networks
  • Function as a technical lead for projects requiring network technologies
  • Coordinate proper installation, configuration, and testing of network components
  • Create and maintain documentation to support the implementation and management of network technologies
  • Collaborate with engineering functions to ensure implementations are in line with the requirements of our customers, network platforms, and cybersecurity
  • Engage and manage external vendors as appropriate to enhance the team’s capabilities
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
  • This position participates in an on-call rotation and may provide support off hours as required
  • This position may require occasional travel

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • 3+ years’ experience implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge working with networking protocols and standards (e.g., OSPF, BGP, IPSEC, TCP/IP, MPLS, STP, SVI, VLAN, etc.)
  • Strong technical, leadership, and communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead complex projects in a cross functional team environment
  • Demonstrate the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to independently lift and carry 35 lbs.

Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Required — Bachelor’s degree in technology or equivalent technical experience (5-years)
  • Required — Experience with at least two of the following products or platforms: Adtran, Arista, Aruba, Cisco, Fortinet, Meraki, MikroTik, Palo Alto, and Ruckus
  • Preferred — Experience in hospitality or service provider networks
  • Preferred — Industry relevant certifications — e.g., Cisco CCNA, Ruckus RCWA, CWNA, etc.
