JOB DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker’s Federal Planning Practice is looking for an experienced Military Planner to lead comprehensive planning projects for the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force. Our practice’s planners, landscape architects, and project managers are dedicated to helping our Federal clients across the U.S. and overseas. The Military Planner’s Responsibilities Include
- Develop and maintain/update master plans, infrastructure plans, climate resilience plans, facility space utilization studies, and other written reports that clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and implementation steps to clients.
- Facilitate planning charrettes for Federal/Military clients as both a lead facilitator and as a member of a multidisciplinary facilitation team.
- Analyze facility requirements according to DoD guidelines for buildings, infrastructure, ranges, and training areas. Identify and develop courses of action to address or mitigate facility imbalances. Conduct field evaluations and assessments in support of these assessments. Analyze and interpret the impact of military doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership, and education, and personnel on facility requirements.
- Apply knowledge of, and mentor others, in the use of data and reports sourced from Department of Defense Real Property business systems (e.g., RPLANS, GFEBS, HQIIS, ASIP, AIA, CPP, iNFADS, etc.). Direct experience working in these systems is strongly preferred.
- Provide project updates, metrics, communication, and documentation to clients and collaborators.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Please note that this position requires 25% travel.
**THIS POSITION CAN BE REMOTE, IN-PERSON (MOON TOWNSHIP, PA), OR HYBRID; PLEASE NOTE FOR REMOTE THAT PERIODIC ON-SITE TRAVEL TO CLIENT SITES IS REQUIRED.**
Requirements
- At least six years of direct experience in military installation planning and/or base operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, GIS/Geography, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to create realistic and actionable facility and infrastructure plans for Federal/Military clients.
- Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 2-100-01 and other relevant DoD Planning Criteria.
- Familiarity with military requirements, standard designs, and other installation planning guidance such as Installation Energy & Water Plans, Infrastructure Capacity Assessments, Basic Facilities Requirements, facility utilization surveys, and Installation Climate Resilience Plans.
- Experience with data sourced from DoD Real Property business systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong technical writing skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, Outlook).
- This role requires U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
- AICP, PE, or PMP.
- Experience with the military construction process, including completing DD Form 1391s.
- Software skills, such as GIS and AutoCAD.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $82,326-$118,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
