The Role

Village Capital is seeking a versatile and transformational Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) to lead its financial and administrative operations. Role

Reporting to the CEO and serving as a key member of the leadership team, the CFAO will be crucial to maintaining the organization’s financial health, ensuring compliance and driving operational excellence, and will play a pivotal role in shaping financial and operational strategies that advance Village Capital’s mission. This will include:

  • Financial Leadership
  • Oversee financial management, reporting, and compliance, ensuring timely and accurate data analysis and reporting and forward-looking projections.
  • Lead budgeting, financial planning, audits, and tax filings and compliance processes, including program-specific audits.
  • Manage cash flow, restricted assets, and grant budgets to optimize financial health.
  • Impact Investment Integration
  • Support investment administration and align impact investment activities with overall financial frameworks.
  • Collaborate with the Impact Investments team on grants, regrants, and fund administration.
  • Team Leadership and Culture
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance and administration team.
  • Work with other leadership team members as well as managers to create, update, and implement systems, structures, policies and procedures that support operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Foster collaboration and communication across teams to promote a positive workplace culture.
  • Be an active participant in VilCap’s participatory governance system to promote and embody the principles of transparency, inclusion and equity and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Compliance and Risk Management
  • Maintain robust internal controls and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee contract reviews, legal services, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Operational Oversight
  • Manage third-party providers for financial systems, ensuring service quality and alignment with organizational needs.
  • Oversee procurement, cross-functional processes, and financial reporting for VilCap entities.
  • Board and Committee Support
  • Serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors, co-leading the Finance & Audit Committee.
  • Prepare and present financial reports and dashboards for quarterly board meetings.

We Are Looking For a Finance And Operations Expert With Experience In Nonprofit And For-profit Accounting To Lead Our Unique Approach, Combining Diversified Revenue Models With Mission-focused Financial Strategies. Here Are The Traits We Are Looking For

  • Financial Expertise: Proven mastery of nonprofit finance, financial planning, and operational management, with the ability to navigate complex financial systems and compliance requirements.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, enabling the development of forward-looking projections and actionable strategic insights.
  • Operations Architecture: Creativity and ability to design and manage integrated processes and frameworks to drive organizational efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Comfort with adopting new technologies and tools.
  • Effective Communication: Ability to present complex financial and operational concepts to diverse audiences, including boards and non-finance professionals.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Demonstration of the ability to foster a positive organizational culture through strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in financial management, including 5 years in nonprofit finance.
  • Proven expertise in nonprofit accounting, compliance, and reporting for diversified revenue streams.
  • Strong leadership experience with a history of building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Knowledge of GAAP for nonprofits and experience with fund accounting, multi-currency transactions, and alternative investments.
  • Proficiency in financial software and data management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial concepts clearly.
