The Role

This role is a great early-career opportunity to develop your editing skills while building a career with a fast-growing organisation. As a key member of our department, you will contribute to our company’s mission of helping clients make better business decisions by editing market research reports and making sure they adhere to IBISWorld’s writing standards, style guidelines and quality standards.

As an Editor, you will maintain the core department duties of conducting reviews, working with analysts to help improve the depth and insightfulness of their analysis and identify areas for improvement in quality review processes and overall content creation.

You will be provided with on-the-job training when you first join IBISWorld, and your colleagues will support you in learning about our product and your role.

Reporting to the Editorial Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Editing a high volume of industry research reports and making suggestions to improve writing, analytical depth, originality and audience engagement
  • Evaluating analysts’ reports to ensure they align with company writing and style guidelines and set quality frameworks
  • Liaising with analysts to resolve issues with writing and logical inconsistencies to ensure all information is current and accurate
  • Identifying when analysts need further training and providing feedback to improve their writing and analytical skills
  • Helping run workshops to train new analysts and to enhance experienced analysts’ skills in writing and producing high-quality analysis
  • Staying informed about current economic trends, enabling you to identify flaws in economic logic and outdated information quickly
  • Working with other Editors to refine styles, systems, guidelines and more; helping update department manuals and guides as needed
  • Performing basic layout and typesetting tasks in InDesign and Illustrator
  • Other duties as assigned by the Editorial Team Leader or Global Quality Lead

As a successful candidate, you will have:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, publishing or equivalent
  • Two years of experience as a proofreader or copyeditor
  • Attention to detail, impeccable grammar skills and experience using style guides
  • Ability to help connect the content with the audience
  • Intermediate knowledge of business and economic concepts
  • Aptitude to learn new subjects and applications quickly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise and collaborate
  • Ability to prioritise a variety of tasks while maintaining high standards
  • Work well with others, but also self-motivating and autonomous  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is an advantage

Salary: $60,000 p.a. + super
