We are seeking a visionary and highly skilled Head of Engineering to lead and scale our Engineering Team, drive technical excellence, and ensure the success of our SaaS product. This role is critical to maintaining the integrity, performance, and security of our platform while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills to empower a multidisciplinary team of engineers, including front-end, back-end, engineering operations, and QA professionals.

  

What You Will Do As The Head of Engineering

Code Base Ownership:

  • Maintain and "own" the code base, ensuring its integrity, scalability, and long-term efficiency.

  • Establish and enforce best practices for code quality, reviews, and technical documentation.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Engineering Team, fostering an environment of accountability and growth.

  • Manage team members across front-end, back-end, engineering operations, and QA functions, ensuring the delivery of high-impact outcomes during each development cycle.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members, aligning individual success with team goals.

  • Engage in direct, constructive conversations with team members to drive accountability and continuous improvement while remaining deeply hands-on in the code daily, ensuring technical excellence and guiding the team by example.
     

Product Expertise:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of our SaaS product, including its architecture, features, and strategic roadmap.

  • Leverage product knowledge to align engineering efforts with business objectives and customer needs.

System Performance and Reliability:

  • Ensure the system meets uptime and performance standards as outlined in Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure seamless operations.

Strategic Engineering Initiatives:

  • Define and execute strategic initiatives for the Engineering Team, aligned with company objectives and industry trends.

  • Continuously evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance product capabilities and team efficiency.

Security and Compliance:

  • Oversee the security of the system, ensuring robust protection against threats.

  • Lead and manage all security audits and compliance efforts, adhering to industry standards and regulations.

Best Practices Implementation:

  • Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in engineering processes and tools.

  

What You Will Bring As The Head of Engineering

Experience:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record of building, scaling and leading engineering teams in a SaaS B2B environment.
  • Hands-on experience with full-stack development, cloud architectures, and scalable SaaS systems.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in Java, React/JQuery, the Play Framework, MySQL, AWS, GitHub, Cypress, and CI/CD is strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in modern software development practices, tools, and frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements.
     

Leadership Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to align goals and drive results in collaboration with product teams and other stakeholders.
  • Proven success in communicating effectively with clients, team members, and company stakeholders alike.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and team-building abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to forecast and plan the scaling of technical and team resources.

Strategic Vision:

  • Ability to align technical initiatives with business objectives and anticipate future challenges.

What You Will Get As A Porch Group Team Member 

$157,500 - $231,000 annually 

*Please know your actual pay at Porch will reflect a number of factors among which are your work experience and skillsets, job-related knowledge, alignment with market and our Porch employees, as well as your geographic location.   

  • Additionally, you will be eligible to receive long-term incentive awards, subject to program guidelines and approvals.  
  • You will also be eligible to receive an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, subject to program guidelines and approvals
