As a Staff Designer you’re expected to be the “go-to person” on your team of designers. You will be the first line of contact for Product Managers and Engineers with questions about your area of work and will help to determine priorities for your design team with your team’s manager. You will balance your work as an individual contributor along with your work as a mentor, supporting other design projects your team is working on with your expert advice at both a tactical and strategic level.

 

Team

This role will be part of a growing team focused on delivering work automation related solutions into the market. This is an emerging product area within Genesys, and there is considerable room to help define and own both the strategic direction and delivery of the product. Current focus includes delivering complex customer service experiences centered around the journey orchestration, multi-stepped customer engagements, and case management. This team is one of several product design teams within our Design Studio of 75 product designers, design researchers, and strategists. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage design portion of major projects. For example,

    • Contribute to defining an achievable problem statement

    • Determine if research is required, and what type if it is

    • Delegate work, tackling the hardest aspects yourself

    • Review designs as needed, develop different approaches for reviewing the work of Senior Designers versus Associates

    • Determine measurement approach

    • Support development during implementation

  • Exercise independent judgment in developing design approach for projects, including the ability to handle high levels of ambiguity

  • Contribute to team processes and rituals, for example leading sprint planning

  • Mentor and develop talent within the design team and beyond

  • Collaborate proactively with others, both inside and outside of the design team

    • Reach out to a manager for help in resolving ambiguity

    • Synch with another design team working on a similar feature

    • Clarify technical requirements with development partners

    • Alert PM partner if issues are uncovered in the design process

 

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of Figma, the use of design systems, and low-fi design tools such as Miro

  • Experience applying variety of research techniques, including both usability and generative research

  • Track record of partnering with development teams in order to ship designs

  • Track record of partnering with product management to define strategy, direction, and conceptual models

  • Ability to tailor communication style to meet needs of different audiences (you might need to negotiate on a project’s scope with a Director in one meeting, and have to coach a new designer in the next)

  • Prefer candidates with experience in enterprise (specifically support or call centers)
