Overview:

The Accounting Director assists in general ledger maintenance and reconciliation, key partnership billing, month-and year-end closing of accounting records, and other key finance functions. This position identifies and prevents discrepancies and helps set up control systems.

 

Hiring Range: $55,000-$60,000

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to financial recordkeeping, including performing monthly reconciliations.
  • Maintain adequate and effective internal controls in performing all areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor, post and reconcile daily deposits including communication of funds received to team and appropriate journal entries. Also works with business team and field staff on center deposit reconciliations.
  • Prepare a variety of daily journal entries as appropriate.
  • Processes and distributes AP Checks ensuring monitoring and enforcing signatures controls. Will work closely with other Accounting Director to ensure seamless process.
  • Serving as back up to other team members by being cross trained on and performing their daily tasks on occasion
  • Work closely with other departments to respond to questions and confirm accuracy of transactions processed in all systems.
  • Assist in annual audit preparation.
  • Participate in a wide variety of projects and compile a variety of reports including but not limited to assisting with 1099 preparation, monthly audit of associates’ adherence to corporate credit card protocols, and escheating old outstanding payroll and accounts payable checks.
  • Participate and attend special events and fundraising activities in support of the organization.
  • Due to the nature of some duties performed, this position requires being in the office. Flexibility for the occasional need to work from home is allowed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of experience in an accounting environment.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Exceptional computer skills (especially Excel) with the ability to adapt to new software, i.e., Microsoft Office, accounting and financial reporting tools.
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated accounting experience in a complex multiple location organization
  • Experience in accounting for a $20 million revenue budget accounting system for an organization
