Job description

Our client, a high-growth financial services startup specializing in bookkeeping, payroll, and tax strategy for real estate professionals, is seeking a Tax Manager to lead strategic tax planning, preparation, and filing. This role requires a CPA or EA with strong leadership skills, tax expertise, and a passion for helping entrepreneurs navigate their finances. Location: Fully-Remote (Work from Home), 9 AM - 5 PM EST

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Tax Leadership: Execute tax strategies, planning, and mid-year reviews for approximately 300 members, ensuring compliance and financial optimization.

  • Team Management: Lead a tax pod consisting of a junior accountant and tax administrator, overseeing training, performance, and professional development.

  • Business Development & Client Growth: Identify opportunities for upsells within the membership base, foster client relationships, and assist in converting new members through consultations.

  • Tax Planning & Compliance: Provide expert tax guidance to real estate business owners and investors with S-Corps, C-Corps, and Partnership configurations across multiple states.

  • Financial Analysis & Recommendations: Review financial statements, entity structures, deductions, credits, and payroll adjustments for tax efficiency.

  • IRS & State Compliance: Manage state and federal tax filings, quarterly payment reminders, and IRS notices, ensuring full compliance.

  • Process & Technology Management: Utilize an encrypted tax portal for secure document sharing, CRM tools for client engagement, and automation software to enhance workflow.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) required.

  • 5+ years of tax experience, preferably working with real estate clients.

  • 1-3 years of management experience, leading tax teams or divisions.

Skills

  • Proven ability to retain clients and foster long-term relationships.

  • Strong understanding of real estate tax strategies, including cost segregation, Augusta rule, and 1031 exchanges.

  • Proficiency in tech-driven accounting workflows, CRMs, and secure client portals.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex tax concepts for clients.

  • Strong problem-solving and multitasking skills, with a proactive approach to handling client needs.
