Business Unit: Environmental Compliance

Title: Cadet Environmental Health Officer, Temporary - Full-time Role, 35 hours per week

Salary Range: Up to $62358.12 per annum + super (subject to skills and experience)

The Environmental Compliance Business Unit delivers regulation, enforcement, and education services that protect the public, the environment and groups such as residents, tenants, workers and businesses. This Business Unit is involved with the investigation and enforcement of legislation, council policy, and customer requests in relation to parking and companion animals, public health and pollution matters, building/development, land use and fire safety, as well as providing private certification services.

Our opportunity:
The key focus areas of this role include:

  1. Enforce legislative and Council requirements and exercise delegated authority from Council and the Chief Executive Officer in respect of a range of professional matters to ensure quality and consistency in service to external clients
  2. Participate in environmental health programs, including: food, public health and environmental audits
  3. Investigate enquiries/complaints from the public including the collection of appropriate evidence

 

About you:

  • Willingness and ability to enrol in the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) at the Western Sydney University. 
  • Ability to use initiative in work, training and studies
  • Awareness of environmental health issues 
  • Well-developed communication, writing and problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel to University workshops training and other work
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office and an ability and willingness to develop skills in the use of relevant internal software packages

 

In this cadetship you will:

  • study a bachelor degree in environmental health at Western Sydney University by distance part-time
  • have paid study leave and tutoring
  • have structured on-the-job training

 
You will work in the office and out in the community:

  • inspecting swimming pools, food premises, skin penetration and other businesses 
  • responding to enquiries and investigating complaints
  • sampling water and soil 
  • educating people to protect health and the environment 

 The successful candidate will have access to a Council pool vehicle to undertake their work related functions.
