👋 Hi, I’m Theresa - General Counsel and VP here at Dwolla and I’m looking for a new team member who is experienced in - and excited about - contract drafting and negotiations and privacy and compliance law to join our Legal team.
Here is what you can expect to work on in this critical role on my team:
You will work in close collaboration with our revenue teams and tech teams to negotiate complex sales, SaaS, and agreements with our enterprise customers and support our marketing team in materials review. Additionally, you will also work closely with our risk & compliance team to handle routine questions and escalations.

Our Legal Counsel will ideally be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Dwolla is on the cutting edge of innovative payments solutions and that means you must be comfortable with ambiguity and able to deep-dive into new and changing regulations as they are introduced.
**Please note: Due to the highly collaborative nature of this role, we are only accepting candidates who live within driving distance of Des Moines, Iowa. While this is a mostly remote role, there will be occasional in-office attendance required. We anticipate in-office attendance will be limited to a few times per month.

What else is expected of a Legal Counselor at Dwolla?Provide timely legal and business guidance across all teams, with a focus on Sales, Compliance, Privacy, Customer Excellence and MarketingWork closely with Dwolla’s Risk & Compliance team to provide advice on risk and compliance processes throughout the commercial risk review lifecycle and implement scalable processesProvide legal guidance regarding privacy, security, data protection and data privacy including (but not limited to) CCPA, state privacy laws, privacy impact assessments and development of frameworks, data-sharing and development of safeguards, and other related matters.Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreementsProvide guidance regarding customer onboarding process and lifecycle, implement scalable processes, and provide training to internal clientsProvide legal support for digital marketing, advertising, and content production with a focus on consumer protection, and implement scalable marketing review processesDevelop contract templates, contracting guidelines, and scalable contract processesMonitor and drive compliance with Dwolla’s company policies and regulatory requirementsCreate and deliver ongoing training to internal teamsPerform legal research and remain up-to-date on relevant laws and regulationsHelp drive Legal team initiatives, including launching and maturing internal processesWhat are the required qualifications for this position?JD admitted to practice in Iowa, or eligible to be admitted without examination under Rule 31.12 or to register as Iowa House Counsel under Rule 31.163-5 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house experienceSignificant experience with and interest in contract drafting, review, and negotiation is requiredWhat else would make you stand out for this role?Experience assisting clients to navigate regulatory issues, substantive knowledge of laws and issues related to consumer protection and privacy and deep understanding of SaaS contracts is idealPrior experience in the following industries is very desirable: payments, financial services, and/or e-commerceWhen you join the Dwolla team, you get these great perks:
