Job Description
Key Responsibilities
As the Head of Electronic and Electrical engineering you will be a pivotal leader within Ultra Maritime UK, driving both the strategic direction and operational excellence of the Electronic and Electrical engineering function. Your leadership will shape the team’s technical innovation, foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, and ensure delivery of world-class engineering solutions.
Core Leadership Responsibilities:
• Inspire, Lead, and Develop engineering Talent: Provide functional management of the Electronic and Electrical engineering team, including career development planning, performance management, and annual appraisals. Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture that prioritizes professional growth, technical excellence, and employee well-being.
• Strategic Resource Management: Lead recruitment efforts and proactively manage team capacity to meet project demands and future growth. Ensure all projects are staffed with Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) while optimising team utilization in line with budget targets.
• Drive Technical Excellence and Governance: Own and continuously improve business processes related to Electronic and Electrical engineering. Ensure robust governance across projects, champion best practices, and lead by example in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
• Collaborative Leadership: Coordinate closely with other Heads/Directors of Functions to ensure cross-disciplinary alignment, resource sharing, and the successful delivery of complex projects. Act as a key liaison with supporting departments to secure and maintain the infrastructure needed for cutting-edge development.
• Project and Bid Leadership: Play a strategic role in bids and proposals by shaping technical programs, providing expertise in estimating, and ensuring alignment with business goals. Actively contribute to project execution, prioritising effort to technical leadership, mentoring, and strategic oversight.
• Innovate and Shape Future Capabilities: Champion the development of underrepresented skills within the team, such as Electrical architecture and product security measures. Stay abreast of industry trends and regulatory standards, integrating them into team practices and product development.
• Lead Cross-Functional Initiatives: Support the business in achieving export permissions and navigating emerging cybersecurity standards. Represent Ultra Maritime UK in workshops with regulatory authorities and external partners to ensure compliance and future readiness.
• Champion Design for Excellence: Ensure all engineering outputs consider supportability, manufacturability, and lifecycle costs. Collaborate closely with Manufacturing engineering and production teams to achieve cost targets and operational efficiency.
Qualifications / Skills Required
The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong background in Defence Electronic and Electrical engineering. They will possess a blend of technical expertise, strategic acumen, and inspirational leadership, capable of guiding teams through complex challenges while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and 9+ years of experience within a relevant complex engineering environment and 1+ years leadership experience.
May be required to maintain security clearance.
