Job description

The Director provides leadership to ensure that best practices and quality standards guide curriculum development, design, and delivery of Caravel’s Training and Development programs. Working with the Vice President, People and Culture, the Director supports the strategic goals of the Training and Development function, coordinating departmental resources and personnel to provide effective and appropriate training and development services to all Caravel teammates.

The Director collaborates with key stakeholders to provide high quality programming across multiple platforms, including but not limited to in-person, eLearning, and virtual sessions. The Director collaborates with stakeholders from multiple departments in the development of program materials and content. The Director may participate in course design to maintain skills with necessary pedagogy and technology and acts as a trusted resource in matters of adult learning. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Coordinates resources, personnel, and processes needed to ensure that training and development programs and projects are delivered in a timely manner meeting the agreed upon goals and objectives. 
  2. Works with the Vice President, People and Culture, the Training and Development Specialist, to develop schedule of course developments and redevelopments and other projects relevant to organizational Training and Development. 
  3. Serves as a trusted resource in providing consultations to stakeholders and content owners in the application of adult learning principles and best practices, including guidance on efficacy of various modalities to facilitate effective knowledge transfer. 
  4. Supports design of online courses, taking lead on design when necessary and appropriate based on implementation timelines and team capacity. 
  5. Manages scheduling of project and course developments for the department based on programmatic needs and strategic goals of the organization, and requests from stakeholders and content owners. 
  6. Facilitates regular reporting on Training and Development functions and projects to appropriate stakeholders. 
  7. Utilizing continuous improvement, reviews and evaluates the instructional effectiveness of course materials that are being developed and produced, assisting in utilization of new and appropriate technologies, where available, and ongoing refinement to processes impacting the efficacy of all training and development content. 
  8. Ensures a customer-service approach in responding to requests for content development or revision, including appropriate and effective use of various communication methods, including but not limited to email, messaging systems, tracking systems, and content intake systems. 
  9. Remains current with and has a thorough understanding of the latest industry technology tools and trends in adult learning across multiple modalities. 
  10. Evaluates and recommends the hardware, software, and peripheral needs to support the Training and Development function. 

Caravel Pay Details

  • $137,500 to $150,00
  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.  At Caravel we provide competitive wages with excellent benefits, including medical and dental insurance, employer-matched 401(k), paid time-off, paid travel, short-term disability and more.  


Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferable with an emphasis on adult learning and/or instructional design.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in an adult learning setting, including online course development, outcomes assessment, and instructional design.
  • Project Management Certification preferred. 
  • Supervisory experience required. 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Competency in a variety of computer software packages and tools to be used in online course development. 
  • Ability to apply adult learning theory and andragogical/pedagogical best practices to course development for course delivery across multiple modalities
  • Strong skills in design and development of web-based instructional pages, including extensive knowledge of design programs such as Articulate and Captivate, various learning management systems, HTML, graphic design, multimedia, and screen capture
  • Ability to interpret stakeholder and content owning needs in course development and ongoing updates based on organizational needs and strategic goals
  • Ability to manage tasks to meet specified deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and content owners
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to continually adapt, regularly learning new skills, programs, and adult learning best practices.
