Job description

This is a remote position.

Job Highlights:
  • Contract type: Independent Contractor
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm PST with 30 minutes unpaid break (7.5 paid hours per day)
Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Administrative Assistant to support our attorney in settlement negotiations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing case deadlines, maintaining client communication, and handling settlement agreements. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Calendar and Deadline Management:

    • Monitor and manage case deadlines to ensure timely actions.
    • Schedule and track important dates related to settlements and legal proceedings.
  • Client and Attorney Communication:

    • Serve as a liaison between the attorney, clients, and other law firms.
    • Provide clients with regular updates regarding case progress and required actions.
    • Draft and send written communications to clients regarding settlement terms.
  • Settlement Negotiations Support:

    • Request settlements and payment terms on behalf of clients with creditors, collection agencies, and financial institutions.
    • Review and ensure compliance of settlement agreements with office policies and legal guidelines.
    • Communicate settlement terms clearly and professionally to clients in writing.
  • File and Case Management:

    • Maintain and organize client files with all relevant documentation, correspondence, and progress updates.
    • Ensure case files are up to date and accessible for attorney review.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience:

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
    • Prior experience as a Legal Assistant, or in a similar legal support role.
    • Experience in settlement negotiations or debt resolution is a plus.
  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
    • Attention to detail with strong proofreading skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software.
    • Knowledge of legal terminology and settlement procedures.
