Job description

A well-established NPO, dedicated to serving the poor and needy in South Africa and beyond, is seeking an experienced Part-time Accountant (30 hours per month) to support its mission through expert financial management. This part-time remote role requires you to meet occasionally in-office in Salt River. This role involves delivering comprehensive financial accounting services, ensuring accurate reporting, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements. The organisation is fully compliant with relevant legislation and currently operates on Xero and Dext as its primary accounting software.

Responsibilities:

Compliance & reporting
Preparing and submitting monthly VAT, PAYE and SARS returns
Managing annual financial statements (Full IFRS) and audit support
Ensuring regulatory compliance and mitigating risks
Financial management
Developing and delivering automated monthly management reports.
Budget forecasting and integration into Xero
Operational processing
Weekly bookkeeping, reconciliations, and journal reviews
Managing fixed assets, depreciation, and control checks
Streamlining operations and processes for efficiency
Strategic reporting
Assisting with the preparation of customised funder reports and dashboards
Offering strategic financial insights to aid decision-making
Payroll
Processing monthly payroll for a small staff contingent

Requirements

A professional who is keen to use their expertise to make a meaningful impact in the non-profit environment
Highly experienced in accounting, bookkeeping, and financial management
Demonstrates a strong understanding of non-profit financial structures and funder reporting requirements
Has expertise with Xero, Dext and other financial tools
Works proactively and collaboratively with leadership team

Thrives in a hybrid or remote work environment, with strong communication and organisational skills
