The Marriage and Family Therapy Division consists of two programs: an M.A. in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy (offered at three Southern California campuses (Los Angeles, Anaheim, and San Diego) and in a Distance Learning modality), and a PsyD in Marriage and Family Therapy (offered at the Los Angeles and Anaheim campuses).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain a network of practicum sites, as well as relationships with site supervisors, within states where students reside.
  • Oversee the education of students who are new to the practicum search processes and practices, including state-specific regulations and requirements.
  • Consult with students who are encountering issues related to their practicum experience.
  • Manage the flow of information regarding students’ progress, as well as problems, to academic department chairs, faculty, and/or practicum sites.
  • Oversee the review of practicum evaluations and related paperwork.
  • Manage the proper storage and/or dissemination of training data including the relevant portions of the Tevera database.
  • Consult on the development of new applied professional practice initiatives and projects.
  • Participate in the MFT and OPT department meetings.
  • Teach a minimum number of credit hours per academic year, as determined by the faculty contract.
  • Participate in department-level strategic planning and budget process.
  • Consult on the development and maintenance of coursework pertinent to professional practice.

  • Attend MFT State and Regional meetings (as applicable), especially in needed locations outside of Southern California.
  • Maintain appropriate records (e.g., PATTR) for programs from which students are being placed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Division Chair and Campus Director of the Office of Placement and Training.

Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (graduation from a COAMFTE-accredited doctoral program preferred) or a related discipline.
  • 2 -3 years of professional training experience preferred.
  • Licensure as a Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) in at least one state or jurisdiction.
  • AAMFT-Approved Supervisor eligible (AAMFT Approved Supervisor status preferred).
  • Ability to travel periodically to a California campus location for required residencies (1x per year initially, which may increase in frequency as the distance learning modality grows).
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct oneself in a respectful and ethical manner.
  • Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
