Join Our Team:  Hospice Medical Director

Schedule: Per Diem, 8-10 hours per week

Location: Hybrid

Who We're Seeking: You are an ethical and patient-centered professional committed to delivering high-quality care, with a strong knowledge of comfort care principles and practices. You excel in collaboration and teamwork and enjoy teaching and supporting hospice staff.

Your Responsibilities: As a member of our dedicated team, you'll:

  • Serve as Hospice Medical Director.
  • Ensure availability of physician coverage (Hospice Medical Director or qualified physician designee) as required by hospice program regulation. 
  • Participate in and attend the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and collaborate with the hospice care team to ensure meetings are effective an encompass all clinical, social and spiritual information needed to ensure documentation of patient trajectory is optimal. 
  • Act as a resource to hospice staff, patients, family members, and attending physicians regarding pain and symptom control measures.
  • Provide consultation and support to the hospice care team and referring physicians as needed on medical interventions consistent with patient and family wishes, as well as hospice philosophy and plan of care.
  • Provide support to the Interdisciplinary team IDT) and Ethics committee in the resolution of conflict and ethical issues. 
  • Provide clinical expertise to staff when appropriate to assure quality care to hospice patients and families.
  • Work collaboratively with the Hospice Manager and CEO to provide input into regulatory oversight and clinical guidance.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school. 
  • Minimum five years as a physician in medicine, oncology, geriatrics, palliative care or other relevant field of medicine required. 
  • Physician licensure by the State of Vermont as a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy required.
  • Board certification in hospice and palliative care preferred. 
  • Experience in rural health, palliative care and/or hospice care highly desired.
