Role Name: Senior Accountant


Schedule:
  • Full-time 9:30am to 5:30pm AEDT, Monday -Friday
  • Client Timezone: Brisbane, Australia

Client Overview

This thriving agricultural business specializes in avocado farming and processing. With around 2000 acres of farmland, they are rapidly expanding their operations to meet growing demand. As their revenue increases from $6 million to a projected $10-15 million over the next two years, they require skilled accounting professionals to support their growth trajectory.


About the Role:
We are seeking a  Senior Accountant  with  expert-level proficiency in Xero  to join our client's finance team. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience managing  accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR),  and be comfortable handling a  full suite of bookkeeping activities in XERO software . This role will also be responsible for generating financial reports and managing  payroll , utilizing Xero’s advanced functionalities to optimize processes and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Xero Accounting & Bookkeeping
  • Oversee and maintain accurate financial records in Xero, including daily transaction postings, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Ensure chart of accounts is accurate and optimized for reporting.
  • Accounts Payable (AP)
    • Manage the entire AP cycle: vendor setup, invoice review, coding, and timely payment processing.
    • Monitor and optimize internal controls related to AP to prevent errors or fraud.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR)
    • Oversee the AR cycle: customer billing, payment tracking, and collections.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to streamline invoicing and payment processes.
  • Reporting & Analysis
    • Generate, review, and analyze financial statements and management reports through Xero’s reporting features.
    • Provide insights and recommendations for cost savings, revenue growth, and process improvements.
  • Payroll Management
    • Process payroll accurately within Xero, ensuring compliance with local labor laws and payroll regulations.
    • Maintain employee records and handle payroll tax filings, benefits tracking, and related documentation.
  • Compliance & Best Practices
    • Stay current with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and best practices.
    • Ensure all financial operations align with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Process Improvement
    • Continuously assess existing workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement solutions for efficiency.
    • Use advanced Xero functionalities and integrations to automate and streamline accounting tasks.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Work closely with finance leadership and cross-functional teams (e.g., sales, operations) to provide financial insights and support.
    • Offer training and guidance to junior accounting staff on best practices and Xero functionalities.


    Requirements
    • Educational Background:
      • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
      • CPA or equivalent professional certification (preferred but not required).
    • Xero Expertise:
      • Demonstrated expert-level proficiency (Advanced) in Xero, including advanced reporting, reconciliation tools, payroll, and add-on integrations.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-5 years in a senior-level bookkeeping or accounting role.
      • Proven track record in managing AP, AR, and full-cycle bookkeeping.
      • Experience processing and reviewing payroll in Xero software.
    • Technical Skills:
      • Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS) and compliance requirements.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for financial modeling and analysis.
      • Comfortable working with cloud-based applications and finance tools.
    • Soft Skills:
      • Strong communication and organizational skills with an acute attention to detail.
      • Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
      • Team-oriented approach and willingness to mentor junior staff.
