Job description

The Senior Analyst, FP&A will establish, execute and maintain merchandise margin analytics, through rigorous analysis of margin architecture and all margin change management activities at Bob’s. This individual will oversee the development, consistent execution, and on-going evaluation of our retail margin strategies across categories and channels. This includes all aspects of strategy development, architecture, standards and execution. An essential part of this role is building and maintaining business partnerships with merchandising, planning, sourcing and supply chain leadership to ensure margin and inventory/open-to-buy strategies deliver business results.

This individual will play a pivotal role in developing merchandise margin strategies for Bob’s products and services to deliver sales growth and optimize gross profit while ensuring alignment with Bob’s overall value proposition. They will develop comprehensive financial models to analyze the impact of proposed margin strategies with respect to sales, unit velocity, price, cost, margin rate, assortment mix and inventory sell through. This individual will protect and enhance customer price perception, market share, and financial performance in support of merchandising, sourcing and pricing initiatives.  In addition, they will define reporting needs to improve Bob’s ability to utilize margin as a strategic lever for growth and communicate margin trends and insights, articulating impacts to performance and strategic KPI’s. They will be responsible for providing a monthly merchandise margin forecast inclusive of product margin and freight drivers as well as managing the monthly close and annual budget process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Recommend margin strategies based on current performance, analysis of key initiatives, and competitive dynamics.
  • Collaborate with merchandising to develop and communicate comprehensive product strategies which capture upside trend opportunities while mitigating downside risk.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, present omni-channel merchandise margin levers, and deliver recommendations to enhance financial performance.
  • Identify and deliver margin plans for budget and monthly reforecast processes based on sales trends, margin targets, freight drivers, and inventory levels.
  • Provide variance analysis for monthly close.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Inventory, and Finance to facilitate the introduction of new products, retirement of old products, and strategic pricing into the margin planning process to optimize sales, margin and inventory levels.
  • Manage merchandise margin analytics – execute a holistic roadmap for analytics to develop a nuanced and actionable understanding of margin and sales dynamics on each relevant category and market.
  • Improve and streamline existing reporting and analysis, and assume additional reporting and analysis as needed to enhance reporting capabilities and insights
  • Build financial models and analysis in support of merchandising, sourcing, pricing, and inbound logistics initiatives and ad hoc requests
  • Be aware of geopolitical, macro, and competitive trends which may affect merchandising, pricing, sourcing, and supply chain in the furniture industry 
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years work-related experience in a core FP&A function.
  • Business intelligence, data warehouse, and planning tool software experience.
  • Exceptional and advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills and proficiency in working with different systems to retrieve and analyze data.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting financial documents and financial modeling.
  • Ability to work with massive amounts of data and summarize and convey findings.
  • Ability to use historical trends to develop dynamic forecasting models.
  • Thrive in a high-performance, fast‐paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Balance multiple projects and meet necessary deadlines with limited supervision. Proven thought leadership skills, including the ability to drive innovation and results both as an individual contributor and team member.
  • Ability to leverage data in disparate systems and determine data accuracy and integrity.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to model current and long-range plans.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and establish credibility with senior leaders and functional experts.

  • Must demonstrate a deep familiarity with financial accounting, modeling, and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at a leading retail or ecommerce business.
  • Ability to leverage large planning and reporting tools.
  • Experience partnering with key leaders across the enterprise to analyze operating results and make value-added recommendations.
  • Proven experience in scaling companies, driving change and supporting growing teams within a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to lead change and drive execution.
  • Experience preparing reports and presentations for senior management and board of directors.
  • Has a consumer brand perspective and proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, investors, customers, and vendors.

Work Environment

This work environment includes working in a corporate, business environment or working remotely from a home residence. This may include working in an office, consulting with organization partners and vendors. This position is primarily remote but may require occasional travel. This is typically a normal

M-F work week. 

Expected Base Pay Not Including Potential Commissions, Incentive, Bonus, etc. Opportunities:

$75,000 - $95,000
