The Opportunity:
The Senior Product Manager role will be a key team member for physical product development at Caraway. You will own end-to-end product development (NPI) for specific product categories from concept through launch, including defining product requirements, prototyping, manufacturing, packaging, marketing, and strategy. This role will own all aspects of category performance: from building a scalable supply chain and increasing margin through to end-to-end new product launch; continuous innovation on our core product; building legal protection & sustainability. You’ll drive brand vision and bring new concepts to life with innovative techniques, materials, and an uncompromising focus on the highest quality and aesthetic outcomes in a way that excites our consumers. You will have the opportunity to work with our industrial design agency, internal product development team in the US and Asia, as well as our overseas manufacturing partners and other internal Caraway teams like marketing and creative.
In addition to NPI activities, the role will be directly responsible for driving product improvements across assigned product lines. You will work closely with our factory partners, Caraway customer support, and other team members to collect and analyze customer feedback in relation to product quality and requested feature updates. Using this data in conjunction with competitor market and trend analysis, you will strategize key product improvements to features, materials, and quality issues. Product improvements can also involve updating existing packaging to optimize material usage, update graphics/copy, and improve logistics costs.
This role will report directly to the Product Development Lead and will be primarily a remote position, however this role will have weekly in-person meetings in Manhattan and will need to reside within commuting distance of the city. This position requires 1-4 nightly supplier calls during the week (Monday to Thursday) and potential travel to Asia and San Francisco when required.
Who You Are:
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in product development for consumer kitchen products. You leverage your experience to determine product features and specifications, set marketing targets and benchmarks, and guide industrial design, suppliers, and internal product development. You are excited by collaborating with teams to learn more about marketing, merchandising, operations, etc. You have a strong knowledge of materials and their implications in product design and strive for using new and emerging sustainable and non-toxic materials. You are flexible in your day to day and enjoy working on a small team that is working on many projects. You are excited by the continued expansion into new categories and have excellent organization and time management skills that allow you to adapt and pivot quickly in your day-to-day.
To be successful in this role, you must be a hands-on executor, a strong creative problem solver, and thrive working both autonomously and collaboratively. You are comfortable with independently interpreting data and information from multiple sources (such as consumer insights, industry trends, and customer support data) drawing conclusions and insights, and providing concise and constructive feedback to vendors to push product development forward. While directly responsible for leading specific product categories, you must be self-aware of their own limitations and be comfortable to raise these concerns to lean on the expertise of the larger team.
A key aspect of this position will be market and consumer research during early development phases. You must have the knowledge and skillset to identify product market fit, our product positioning and merchandising strategy, conduct customer and competitor research to inform your position, and craft Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) and Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) to guide the development process. You will use this information to not only inform the Product Development team, but also work closely with the Caraway Marketing, Growth, Brand, and Creative teams throughout to provide more insights for their respective assets and tell the Caraway story.
You must be comfortable working directly with overseas manufacturing partners, driving timelines, design updates, price conversations, packaging, and overall strategy. You will maintain product compliance through 3rd party testing and work with the local team to ensure all items are updated regularly.
