Summary of Job Duties:
The Quality Manager (QM) is responsible for a broad range of activities within the Laboratory and Pathology Service Line (LPSL). The QM will work closely with the LPSL Service Line Director, Medical Director, and Administrator to plan, organize, direct, and lead work processes related to quality, compliance, and safety.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or other applicable field
- 5 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent position with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- ASCP (MLS, C, H, etc) or equivalent certification
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Knowledge of CAP accreditation requirements and extensive knowledge in laboratory safety standards and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in related scientific field
- 3 years of managerial/supervisory experience
- Qualification in Laboratory Safety (ASCP)

- This person will have detailed understanding and can skillfully use the techniques of system design, project management, quality improvement, and statistical analysis.
- This support includes a wide array of activities to ensure day-to-day laboratory quality assurance operations are efficient and effective.
- This position is responsible to provide quality data/information as well as analyze quality and safety metrics and facilitate performance improvement activities.
- The QM will ensure timelines are met on projects within the Service Line that include review and analysis of quality and compliance for operational and accreditation standards using formal quality improvement methodology.
- The QM is responsible for ensuring laboratory safety policies and procedures are followed and that the laboratory environment follows mitigation plans to reduce internal and external harms.
- The QM must have the ability to set goals, prioritize competing demands, be an efficient task manager and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills by maintaining good working relationships with all sections within LPSL.
- Additionally, the QM must make effective use of organization resources and demonstrate skills as a systems thinker. S/He must have the ability to plan, coordinate and execute with little oversight.
- The QM is required to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills by anticipating, analyzing, interpreting and solving problems in accordance with the mission and goals of LPSL and the broader institution.
- The QM must maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient information.
- The QM performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
