Job Description 

 

Summary/Objective 

The Controller oversees all aspects of accounting and financial reporting within the organization. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, leading process improvements, and acting as the project manager for month-end and year-end closing. Additionally, the Controller supports payroll functions, ensures compliance with tax filings, manages audits, and coordinates submissions such as Incurred Cost Electronically (ICE) and provisional billing rates.

  • Provide leadership and development opportunities to the finance and accounting team, ensuring alignment with company goals and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Supervise daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and cash management.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the trial balance, manage adjustments, and verify account reconciliations for financial statements.
  • Collaborate with HR to manage payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and timely submission of payroll-related financial information.
  • Identify, lead, and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations.
  • Project Manager for audits. Coordinate and manage audits (internal and external), ensuring timely preparation and delivery of audit materials, and facilitating communication between auditors and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit Incurred Cost Schedule (ICS) report annually, ensuring compliance with government requirements.
  • Prepare provisional billing rates, ensuring accurate and compliant billing for government contracts.
  • Primary for sales and Use tax filings 
  • Assist with State and Federal tax filings by ensuring accurate financial data and collaborating with external tax professionals for compliance.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes, leveraging technology and best practices to streamline operations and enhance accuracy.
  • All other duties as requested.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently in a remote setting, staying organized and available during standard business hours. Consistently responsible for being online, maintaining productivity, and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.

 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or other related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • 6-12 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, such as Deltek Costpoint.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Experience and familiarity with government contract compliance (FAR/DFARS).
  • Experience with payroll management, audits, ICE submission, and tax filings. 

 

Supervisory Responsibility 

This position involves direct supervision of accounting team members, providing leadership, mentorship, and ensuring the team's alignment with departmental goals and company objectives. 

 

Work Environment, Programs, and Tools 

While working in an office environment, this position will frequently be required to sit, talk, hear, use hand-eye coordination, and use hands/fingers to grasp or type. Must be able to be on camera for remote meetings. This position will also occasionally require walking and standing. 

This position will also frequently require the individual to use the following tools, equipment, or programs: Computer, Microsoft Suite products (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.) with advanced proficiency in Excel, and Deltek Costpoint.
 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position will be a remote position preferably co-located at one of our corporate hubs to include Huntsville, AL, Tallahassee, FL, or Tampa, FL and will require adherence to the corporate core hours of operation of 9AM EST – 5PM EST. If co-located at a Florida site, a hybrid work schedule will be required 2-3 days per week. This position is a full time salaried-exempt position, expected to work at least 80 hours a payroll period. This position may require evening/weekend work and work outside of the normal hours of operations when needed to support financial projects, audits, or analyses. 

 

Travel 

Travel requirements are not anticipated at this time.
