Job description

Job Summary

The Owned Distribution Accountant will perform various duties to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for FGL Holdings and its subsidiaries. Areas of responsibility include preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations, research of reconciling items, preparation of GAAP financial statements and other monthly close responsibilities. The Owned Distribution Accountant will also support prepping requests from internal and external auditors.

Organization

The Owned Distribution Accountant will report to the Manager, Owned Distribution.  He/she will work with other members of the Owned Distribution team and collaborate with other departments throughout the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

The range of tasks to be performed may include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Preparing reconciliations and analysis of general ledger accounts and other financial data.
  • Executing internal controls designed to mitigate identified risks within the financial reporting process.
  • Preparing journal entries, evaluation and supporting analysis.
  • Preparing GAAP financial statements for the company’s Owned Distribution subsidiaries.
  • Performing designated tasks within the monthly close management process.
  • Assisting with requests of both internal and external auditors.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and/or internal control enhancements.
  • Identifying discrepancies and applying critical thinking related to trends and problem solving.
  • Assisting with ad hoc requests, special projects and other duties related to financial reporting and analysis, as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements

The experiences and/or education requirements required (or preferred) for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in related field, preferably in Finance.
  • Experience with insurance accounting and revenue recognition standards.

  • Ability to gain an understanding of processes and overall workflow of an accounting function.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels.

  • Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to independently work with or manipulate large sets of data from different systems or applications.
  • Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to create complete accurate documentation of work performed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal customers and identify opportunities for improvement while demonstrating a strong desire to learn and grow. 

Other Requirements

  • Perform other functions, duties and projects, as assigned.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Some travel required (less than 10%).
