Northeastern is a global university and NU-RES supports its team working remotely. Remote locations and work schedules are determined based on operational needs and in consultation with Team members, consistent with university policies and guidance.Reporting to the Executive Director, Research Administration, the Research Agreement Officer serves as a key resource for faculty, department staff, and funding agencies. This position will be responsible for reviewing, negotiating, coordinating, and processing a wide range of research agreements, including incoming and outgoing subawards, related research agreements (e.g., non-disclosure, material and data use agreements) and provides essential guidance on university and funding agency policies and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment preferred. Must have solid judgment and capacity to exercise discretion to resolve ambiguity and promote effective solutions. Must have a strong commitment to constructively contribute to a customer service environment, providing professional, timely, efficient, and courteous service to the university research community.
Bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of 3 years relevant experience. Knowledge of government research regulations and with customary policies and practices of an institute of higher education a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Research Agreement Review & Negotiation 70%
- Reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of research related agreements from federal, state, nonprofit and industry partners. Review includes verifying budgets and ensuring conformance with sponsor governmental regulations, and university policy requirements. Negotiation includes balancing the other party’s and university’s needs while ensuring compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
Research Community Resource 20%
- Serve as a resource for the NU research community; collaborate with university stakeholder offices as needed, including Office of General Counsel, Research Finance, and Compliance units, to ensure adherence to university policies, coordinate between and among NU-RES unites (e.g., compliance), stakeholders and faculty/department administrators.
Professional Development 10%
- Engage in University-wide professional development activities, i.e. training, workshops, and developing resources useful for customers. Participate in special projects assigned by NU-RES.
