Your Opportunity
One Permanent Full Time Position
Capital Power is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join the U.S. Finance team. The team is responsible for the financial and management reporting of actual results and variances, budgeting, forecasting and analytical support for Capital Power’s U.S. assets. The U.S. fleet comprises a collection of wind, solar and gas-fired power plants located throughout the U.S.
Reporting to the Chief U.S. Financial Officer, the Senior Specialist, Commercial Reporting will partner with internal stakeholders to provide insights into financial and operational trends to directly influence business decisions for an assigned group of assets. This is an exciting financial role involving a combination of forward-looking forecasting, analysis of actual results, and an array of ad-hoc analyses, all of which drive results for the business.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Leveraging your deep understanding of the assigned portfolio to provide strategic advice and insightful commentary, directly influencing high-level business decisions and positioning yourself as the financial expert for the assets.
- Driving financial performance by proactively identifying and capitalizing on value-add opportunities, including incremental revenue streams, risk reduction options, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Leading the development of the long-term plan, annual budget, and quarterly forecast for the assigned facilities, in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Analyzing and reporting on monthly, quarterly, and annual variances, with a focus on the business and key drivers/trends.
- Delivering responses to analytical requests and/or data to the supported business partners in Commercial Management, Operations, and other functional areas of the company.
- Preparing financial models and written summaries to support project initiatives, budget presentations, and other commercial activities.
- Maintaining and strengthening collaborative relationships with internal subject matter experts and other key stakeholders, to provide comprehensive financial insights and updates that drive overall business success
- Ensuring procedures are well-developed and established internal controls are operating effectively, and that all analysis reflects key trends, assumptions and drivers to ensure business analysis that will enhance overall financial results.
- Identifying and executing process improvement opportunities to continually improve efficiency and automate tasks.
- Staying updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in financial reporting.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
- Completed post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- A professional accounting designation or equivalent is an asset.
- A master’s degree is an asset.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in finance with operational, commercial, engineering, business development, or accounting, financial and analytical roles; preferably in the deregulated electricity or other related industry.
- Knowledge/experience with respect to power markets, power generation, power marketing, regulatory, commodities and related agreements, transmission and related agreements and power purchase agreements is preferred.
Technical & Other Skills:
- Strong financial analysis skills, familiarity with financial statements, budgets, forecasting and development of asset earnings profiles.
- Superior problem-solving and analytical skills, and an ability to handle a dynamic and full workload.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to work effectively with non-financial individuals.
- Takes initiative and can manage ambiguity and conflict with the ability to effectively exercise influence.
- Strong time management and attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to foster positive internal external stakeholder relationships.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle, and/or Hyperion is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid office/work from home position based in our Midland, Michigan or Phoenix, Arizona locations.
- Some travel to locations across North America will be required.
Additional Details:
The pay range for this position is $115,330 to $126,256. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior relevant experience.
This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.
Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
