Job description

Project Manager

This role can be homebased in the UK, but may require occasional travel.


At Ds Smith we are looking for a Project Manager to join our team. The Project Manager will be responsible for defining project scope, goals, and deliverables as well as develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, resource allocation, and budgets, whilst partnering cross-functionally across several teams in delivering our Supply Chain Transformation Programme.


In this role you will develop and implement methodologies that not only adhere to industry standards but also push the boundaries. You will Lead the project team to deliver the defined project objectives and achieve the specified benefits in line with the appropriate quality, on time, and within budget to achieve the organisation's strategic goals in alignment with the DS Smith Delivery Framework.

As a Project Manager, you will have excellent project management, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills. You will be able to adapt to changing priorities and cope with ambiguity. You will also have a strong commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead and motivate project teams, providing direction and support throughout the project lifecycle
  • Oversee projects from new product development through to successful execution, ensuring timelines and goals are met
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts, ensuring processes are optimized for better efficiency and effectiveness
  • Build strong relationships across stakeholder and project teams, utilizing organizational agility and conflict resolution skills to proactively address and mitigate potential issues
  • Communicate regularly with key stakeholders, ensuring transparency and keeping everyone informed of project progress, risks, and recommendations
  • Take responsibility for overall progress and use of resource in the project, 
  • initiate corrective actions where necessary
  • Lead, manage and motivate the project team on a daily basis to achieve 
  • the defined project objective

What we would like to see:

  • Able to demonstrate experience of successfully delivering complex end to end project/programme management, including defining resources, leading procurement securing project teams and matrix management across multiple projects/programmes
  • A Professional with technical knowledge and skills in project management demonstrated by a recognised project (AMP PMQ/Prince) or programme management (MSP) qualification
  • A flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks, and confident in using your expertise to influence decisions with senior leaders
  • A skilled communicator, with experience of managing complex and challenging situations with competing interests and a diverse range of people
  • A leader for learning and sharing with the ability to coach and mentor
