The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer. This person will be responsible for installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, operating systems, and related infrastructure. Support the company's infrastructure and ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards. This is a remote position.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Responsible for the enterprise-wide implementation, maintenance and administration of all Windows servers, Active Directory, VMware, Citrix, storage, infrastructure tools and disaster recovery.
Responsible for maintaining current and future VMWare vSphere hosting environments. Maintains and deploys new virtual machines as necessary.
Administer Azure infrastructure and serve as subject matter expert on utilizing Microsoft Azure.
Regularly confer with developers, analysts, other system engineers, and users regarding current and prospective systems changes and future needs.
Provide all levels of technical support to internal and external customers as necessary.
Identify system resources that are nearing capacity and recommends solutions to resolve potential system resource over-allocation proactively.
Participate in on-call rotation to include after-hours, and weekend activities in a production environment.
Participate in, or independently perform, scheduled after-hours/weekend system deployment and maintenance activities.
Research, document and implement project/program requirements and specifications.
Develop and document all processes and standards and work with other team members to cross train and provide back up and support for technologies within the enterprise.
Develop and gain approval for technical roadmaps for future visions moving forward.
Maintain a positive working relationship with IT technical staff, customers and managed services providers.
Coordinate with network engineers, systems analysts, programmers, and other software engineers to resolve any defects in products or company systems.
Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades for optimal performance.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
Generally, 5+ years of experience in related field preferred
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
Prior software troubleshooting experience
Prior experience with Microsoft Active Directory and GPO administration, scripting and automation skills relative to infrastructure technologies
Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
Demonstrated ability to deliver IT projects on-time and on-budget
Demonstrated experience successfully working in Cross Functional project teams
Experience with design, architecture, and management of public cloud infrastructure within Microsoft Azure
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Customer service skills an asset
Highly self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail
Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines
Ability to lift and install rack-mounted servers
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices and objects
Some travel may be required for the purpose of off-site software installation and system startups
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
