Job description

Natcast (short for The National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology) is a new, purpose-built, non-profit entity created to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) consortium, established by the CHIPS Act of the U.S. government.

Working at Natcast represents an opportunity to help extend America’s leadership in semiconductor technology, significantly reduce the time and cost of moving from idea to commercialization, and build and sustain a semiconductor workforce development ecosystem.

These efforts to advance semiconductor technology and seed new industries built on the capabilities of a wide range of advanced chips hold the potential to benefit the country and the world for generations to come.

In this role you will pioneer system-level optimization strategies that define the future of semiconductor performance, developing breakthrough solutions for power efficiency, thermal management, and computational throughput challenges.

Every day you will collaborate with leading academic researchers and industry experts to create and validate innovative models that push the boundaries of semiconductor system performance while advancing U.S. technological capabilities.

To thrive in this role you must combine deep technical expertise with creative problem-solving abilities, demonstrating both analytical rigor and collaborative spirit while developing next-generation semiconductor optimization solutions.

As part of Natcast's commitment to advancing semiconductor innovation, you'll work at the intersection of academic research and industry application, developing optimization strategies that enhance the performance of next-generation semiconductor systems across the entire technology stack.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Development:

  • Lead groundbreaking research in system-level optimization, addressing power delivery, memory bandwidth/latency/capacity/cost, power density, thermal density, thermal management, and power-efficient performance optimization.

  • Develop advanced simulation frameworks comprehending package, board, rack, system, and application. Develop models to predict and optimize semiconductor system behavior under varying conditions.

  • Design innovative strategies to enhance performance and efficiency across complex, multi-layered semiconductor systems.

Innovation & Application:

  • Develop and implement cutting-edge power efficiency and thermal management solutions for next-generation semiconductor designs.

  • Guide the translation of academic research into practical, scalable industry applications.

  • Explore the integration of emerging technologies such as machine learning for hardware and/or software optimization.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Collaborate with academic and industry partners to co-develop and validate optimization models and strategies.

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the implementation of optimization solutions across the semiconductor development lifecycle.

  • Mentor and develop junior researchers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.

Knowledge Dissemination:

  • Author technical publications and white papers to share research findings with the broader scientific community.

  • Present groundbreaking discoveries at industry conferences and academic symposia.

  • Build a patent portfolio to protect Natcast's intellectual property and technological advancements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in system-level optimization or related areas.

  • Expertise in power efficiency modeling, thermal management, and algorithm development.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and validate advanced simulation models.

  • Proven track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Strong skills in data analysis and computational problem-solving.

  • Experience leading research initiatives and managing cross-disciplinary collaborations.

  • A strong background in hardware optimization and system-level design.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the semiconductor industry, with an understanding of end-to-end development cycles.

  • Established partnerships with academic research institutions.

  • A robust patent portfolio showcasing innovative contributions.

  • Proficiency in applying machine learning techniques to system optimization challenges.

  • Hands-on experience with multi-physics simulation tools.
