The Opportunity
As a Software Engineer - Entry Level, you will be working on the Claims Line of Business organization in USAA's Property and Casualty (P&C) which is responsible for supporting our members for their Auto/Property insurance and the associated Claims raised by our members. This role requires engineers to craft, implement, and maintain application solutions for the given requirements. Engineers on this team are encouraged to collaborate with multi-functional teams to implement the business requirement. In this position, your duties primarily revolve around writing code, testing it, and troubleshooting the code. You may also get the opportunity to be in charge of crafting user guides and other documentation for clients. In order to succeed as an entry-level Java developer, you will need to be willing to challenge and try new solutions when faced with problems.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Under direct supervision, design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.
- Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis.
- Verify and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
- Improve application stability and scalability.
- Build and maintain technical documentation.
- Build and improve automated tests and code quality.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
- Up to 2 years of software development experience.
- Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/discipline and proven application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.
- Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python
- Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
- Basic Understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
What sets you apart:
- Software engineering experience developing AWS, Lambda functions.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and work queue style requests on a regular cadence.
- AWS certification and/or Cloud Certification.
- Basic understanding of one or more of the following: AWS & Cloud.
- Foundational knowledge of delivering technology solutions in all phases of a solution development lifecycle.
- Fundamental experience with modern programming/scripting languages and frameworks such as Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, SQL, Go, and Python, Spring Boot.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $63,590.00 - $121,530.00
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
