About The Role: 

CALSTART is seeking a Senior Utility Advisor with experience in the utilities industry to join our team for this exciting role. This position will report to the Deputy Director of Utilities and Tribal Affairs and will primarily support the growing number of programs within the CALSTART portfolio and function as a liaison between the utility industry and the Policy and Infrastructure teams. 
 
In this role you will be responsible for executing elements of the National Utility Engagement Strategy within California and other select states. You will also deepen your subject matter expertise on make-ready programs, relevant policy, and implement best practices from a strategic utility perspective. Extensive research may be involved.   

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Responsible for leading and executing elements of the National Utility Engagement Strategy within California and other select states.  
  • Researching and deepening subject matter expertise on make-ready programs, relevant policy, and implement best practices from a strategic utility perspective.  
  • Maintain and foster relationships with utilities and members across the broad CALSTART portfolio.  
  • Identifying key leaders from the utility industry for webinars, organizing working groups, supporting industry conferences, and participating in other CALSTART events.   
  • Host regularly scheduled meetings to keep senior leadership apprised of relevant programmatic changes and utility policy 
  • Maintaining a list of make-ready programs and providing monthly utility reports to all the major utilities related to programs administered by CALSTART.   
  • Project supervisory duties include; managing staff, assigning work, reviewing final work product, training, interviewing and hiring, performance appraisal input.  

  • What You Bring To The Table:
  • 5-7 years of experience with utilities and clean technology 
  • Ability to write clearly, persuasively, and concisely 
  • Strong communication, presentation, time management, and organizational skills.  
  • Familiarity with California geography and utility territories 
  • Experience providing supervisory duties for projects and individuals 
  • Occasional travel throughout California may be required 
  • Primary residence in California – Los Angeles/Pasadena area preferred 

  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with working with Tribal governments and communities is desired  
  • Experience in the clean transportation sector and make-ready programs is a plus
