Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - Posting #27309

Hourly Rate: $20.76

Position Summary:

Part-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BPC) position available in Vancouver. The person in this position will cover Clark County WIC/Nutrition Program.  This is a part-time position ranging from 10-29 hours per week.  This position does not provide benefits. The person in this position will work from home and in their local WIC office.  Ability to travel for occasional training and meetings is required. A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BPC) must be willing and able to work flexible hours (including evenings, week-ends, and holidays), and to make phone calls from home on a company provided cell phone.   

A BPC is a paraprofessional support person who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding women on WIC.  BPCs receive extensive training on lactation, breastfeeding, and counseling methods so they are prepared to provide accurate, evidence-based information and support to breastfeeding women and their families. Applicants who are current or recent participants in the WIC program preferred. Applicant must have breastfed one or more children a minimum of 1 year.

Education and/or Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED equivalent
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, and organization skills. 
  • Bilingual in Russian and/or Ukrainian strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred.
