About the Role:

Spreedly is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join our Platform Engineering organization to support the continued build-out of Spreedly’s core services. As a Software Engineering Manager at Spreedly, you will contribute to setting team strategy and ensuring engineering OKRs are consistently met. We value ownership and accountability while building the products that enable us to contribute to the ongoing and ever-changing development of an open payments platform.

Responsibilities:
  • Directly manage a team of engineers responsible for Infrastructure, CI/CD, Security, Compute, Storage, developer experience, data pipelines, and backend system scalability
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for system reliability, performance, and efficiency
  • Coordinate with other engineering managers to ensure their goals are supported, whether by providing essential development tools or reviewing the implementation plan for new features to ensure alignment with best practices and company policies
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps best practices across the engineering organization
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and secure infrastructure
  • Define technical roadmaps for company-wide DevOps, DevEx, Data Eng, and Security efforts with clear milestones and deliverables, collaborating closely with product teams to ensure success
  • Support the overall engineering team's professional growth and development by fostering an inclusive team culture, mentoring junior team members, and recruiting top talent
  • Manage responsibilities to ensure the team effectively delivers a highly available service to customers.
  • Help build a diverse team while promoting a collaborative and inclusive environment.

  • Requirements:
  • An experienced professional with 3+ years of Engineering Management experience, guiding platform or infrastructure teams in high-growth environments, with a proven track record of delivering reliable and adaptable core services that support critical production infrastructure.
  • Deep knowledge of building and maintaining core platform services, focusing on observability, scalability, and performance; experience supporting systems that process high volumes of transactions or integrate with broader financial systems is highly desirable.
  • A process-driven thinker who continuously improves and standardizes the SDLC for platform engineering teams using Agile industry best practices.
  • Experienced in utilizing tools such as Jira, Confluence, and other project management platforms to organize team workflows via Scrum and Kanban. Familiarity with engineering metrics tools like LinearB, Jellyfish, or Allstacks is a plus.
  • Managed full lifecycle ownership of services, including architecture, development, deployment, and support, using technologies such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Postgres, Kafka, and AWS.
  • Demonstrated understanding of platform and infrastructure project management strategies, including capacity planning and technical debt management. Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of effectively explaining technical concepts to stakeholders across engineering, product, and management teams.
  • Experience scaling teams (onshore and offshore) to support platform development and organizational growth.
  • Adept at analyzing operational and team performance data to create actionable insights and advocate for measurable improvements in reliability and efficiency.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize and achieve roadmap goals to achieve company objectives
  • Is empathetic and effective in guiding teams; thrives on mentoring and building cohesive groups.
  • Drive to help engineers develop new skills and advance in their careers. You don’t shy away from performance conversations, and you recognize the relationship between objective feedback and career growth.
