Policy Advisor - Brazil
International Emissions Trading Association (IETA)
Location: Brazil (remote, travel required)

IETA advocates for trading systems for emissions reductions and removals that are environmentally robust, fair, open, efficient, accountable and consistent across national boundaries. Representing more than 300 leading international organisations, IETA is a trusted partner in developing international policies and market frameworks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the lowest cost while building a credible path to net zero emissions.

Tasks and responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to and execute IETA’s policy strategy. More specifically, responsibilities will include:

•            Track and analyse work on carbon markets and other major international carbon market trends.
•            Track and analyse policy and market developments with a focus on SBCE, VCM and Article 6 in Brazil.
•            Report intelligence on policy developments to the IETA Secretariat and membership.
•            Interaction with a large group of corporations, governments, international institutions, and multilateral development banks.
•            Actively participate in the development of IETA policy positions, papers and activities on international markets.
•            Support IETA WGs and special initiatives specifically on NCS, VCM, Article 6, jurisdictional programs, nesting, and other cross-cutting topics.
•            Support IETA activities on legal documentation for international trading and regulatory frameworks.
•            Assist in the planning and execution of technical workshops and IETA’s signature events.
•            Involvement in IETA's communication strategy and member relations, including presentations to a variety of audiences.








Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
•            Academic background in economics, law, international relations, political or environmental sciences. Advanced degree in climate/carbon-related area is a plus.
•            At least 3 years of work experience in carbon markets or climate change/energy related policy making in corporations, governments, multilateral institutions, and/or think tanks.
•            A strong understanding of the legal, economic and political challenges facing carbon markets today.
•            Detailed knowledge of policies and regulations in major carbon market jurisdictions and in the voluntary carbon market is a plus.
•            A knowledge of policy and regulatory developments in Brazil is an additional asset.
•            Excellent communication and networking skills, ready to reach out to decision makers and corporate leaders on climate change.
•            Experience in organization of workshops, including speaking and moderating roles.
•            Proficiency in the use of MS Office required, knowledge of communication tools (PowerPoint, social media, blog writing).
•            Good at multi-tasking in a small office environment, while working with diligence and under high time pressure.
•            Fluent in written and spoken Portuguese and English; fluency in additional languages is a plus (ideally Spanish).
•            Ready to work in a small yet international organisation, self-starter, ready to take over responsibilities.
•            Availability for frequent travel.

Location
Brazil. Temporary or permanent remote working arrangements could be considered, based on the candidate’s profile.

Compensation
Competitive rates appropriate to the experience and seniority of the candidate.
Terms
This role is a fixed term contract for 12 months with possibility of extension.
