Migrations Lead DevOps

Commit is a global technology services company with a rapidly expanding footprint in North America and the UK. As an AWS Premier Tier services partner with over 700 in-house engineers, we are growing our global migrations practice to support customers looking to migrate to AWS.

We are seeking a Migrations Lead DevOps with a strong technical background to oversee and drive the successful execution of cloud migration projects to AWS. This role requires both hands-on delivery and technical team management capabilities to be successful.

The right candidate will have led and participated in multiple Migrations to AWS and have experience with migrating from both on-prem and hybrid cloud environments. While Commit has experience ranging from software development, DevOps, Cyber, Data, GenAI and much more, our goal is to hire a DevOps Tech Lead who will manage migrations and utilize our exceptional talent pool to help our customers build secure and scalable solutions on AWS. You will be prioritizing the delivery of complex migrations across the UK and North America.

This is a hands-on leadership role reporting directly to our Head of Migrations requiring exceptional customer-centricity, technical expertise, and the ability to navigate complex challenges while meeting tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate is a former lead DevOps or hands-on delivery manager who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment, thrives on solving customer challenges and is an expert on AWS. 

Key Responsibilities

• Client Engagement: Engage with prospects and clients in pre-sales and post-sales activities, including requirements gathering, solution presentations, and technical discussions. Build strong relationships with clients, understanding their business challenges, and providing solutions to meet their needs. Act as the primary point of contact for migration clients, building trust and maintaining strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
• Team Leadership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers, and project managers, to ensure alignment and effective execution.
• Solution Design:
• Collaborate with prospects and clients to understand their business needs, technical requirements, existing architecture, and drivers for migration to AWS.
• Based on these, design and architect a target AWS environment that aligns with the Well Architected Framework and industry best practices around operations and security.
• Prepare migration plans including project & resource plans, scope of work, and level of effort estimates.
• Demonstrate expertise in AWS services, architectures, and solutions. Keep up to date with the latest AWS technologies, trends, and best practices. Provide technical guidance and recommendations to clients and internal teams on leveraging AWS services effectively.
• Design and implement solutions that adhere to Well Architected industry-standard security practices and compliance requirements. Assess and mitigate potential security risks, recommending and implementing appropriate security measures to protect clients' data and systems.
• Delivery Management: drive end-to-end cloud migration projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Issue Resolution: Proactively identify and address project risks, bottlenecks, and challenges to maintain momentum and deliver excellence.
• Adaptability: Take on various roles as needed, from strategic planning to hands-on troubleshooting, to ensure project success.

Requirements

Qualifications

Technical Expertise:

• In-depth understanding of AWS services and cloud migration strategies.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in cloud services, with a focus on AWS migration and modernization.
• Previous experience as hands-on Lead DevOps is a must.
• AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) demonstrating expertise in AWS migrations or operations.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Design and implement cloud infra with IaaC including Landing Zone, Application layers, database layers.
• Design and deploy with modern application frameworks including Kubernetes (containerized), Serverless and managed cloud services.
• Experience with design and migration planning including data services, network topologies, and account organization on AWS.
• Knowledge of cloud migration tools and frameworks (e.g., AWS Migration Hub, AWS Application Migration Service).

Additional preferred requirements:

• Previous experience as a Delivery Manager or Project Manager is strongly preferred.
• Previous experience as a developer or software architect is a huge plus to support the delivery of modernization efforts.
• Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
• Experience working with a Premier AWS Partner or IT professional services organization.
• Familiarity with AWS Migration Acceleration Programs (MAP)
