Job description

About Community Change and Community Change Action:

Community Change builds the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to lead powerful and dynamic movements for social change.

Our vision of a better world centers the leadership of impacted people of color to move our work on immigrant rights, economic justice, and racial equity, including a focus on jobs and housing, early childhood care and education, income supports, and immigration reform.

This position also supports Community Change Action, an affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. While motivated by the same core values – equity, inclusion, and justice – Community Change and Community Change Action operate independently of one another and each organization has its own board of directors.

Position Description:

Community Change is seeking a highly skilled, dynamic and passionate leader to join our team as our first Chief of Organizational Development. Among other things, the COD will manage and support CC/A’s leadership teams; provide management and leadership coaching, advice and guidance to senior leaders, including the Co-Presidents and Chiefs; own cross-organizational planning, staff engagements and internal communications; and, design and drive organizational change and culture development strategies. The COD will be a member of our Senior Leadership Team and partner with other leaders to help “hold the whole” of the organization. A portion of time will be spent working with Community Change's sister organization, Community Change Action. At the highest level, the COD will work to create and support a high-functioning, impact-driven, values-aligned organizational culture where people from all backgrounds and at all levels can thrive.

You bring a deep understanding of organizational development and are an expert in understanding organizational dynamics and developing structures and systems that support strategy. You are experienced as a highly-effective coach of senior leaders, providing relevant, courageous and helpful advice and guidance that helps leaders grow and increase their impact. You have strong problem solving skills and a track record of making thoughtful, strategic and values-aligned decisions. If this sounds like you and you’re passionate about the CC/A mission, please apply today!

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Enable and support leadership effectiveness through ownership of leadership team meetings, retreats and activities and membership on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
    • Drive successful leadership team performance through design and implementation of meeting, retreat and planning structures and processes
    • Bring organization-wide or cross-functional challenges, questions and issues to resolution through leadership team discussion and decision-making
    • Develop, manage and implement leadership team communication strategies to ensure decisions and actions are clearly communicated to staff in a timely way, and to support strong organizational culture and alignment
    • Generally ensure that leadership teams are functioning at a high level, meeting organizational needs and driving toward organizational goals
    • Support organization-wide strategy and accomplishment of goals as member of the Senior Leadership Team

  • Drive organizational alignment through ownership of cross organizational planning, staff engagements and internal communications

    • Act as an internal coach and advisor to the Co-Presidents and Chiefs, helping to fully leverage their respective leadership capacities, providing advice and guidance on their staff supervision and mentorship and leadership stance, and supporting their growth and development as leaders.
  • Design, lead and manage organizational change efforts
    • In partnership with other leaders, support the design and implementation of efforts to align the organization around new and/or refreshed organizational strategies
    • In partnership with other leaders, develop and implement strategies to foster a values-aligned organizational culture that supports, and drives toward, organizational goals
