Job Purpose

Reporting to the VP, Transmission, the Interconnection Specialist will support the development plans by executing the interconnection processes necessary for connecting generation projects to the utility grid, from project conception through construction to commercial operation. The Interconnection Specialist will serve as the primary point of contact between the development team and the utilities and/or ISOs to which we seek to connect our projects. This position requires great attention to detail in managing multiple projects with independent priorities and timelines. 


Responsibilities 

  • Coordinating support from consultants, vendors, and teammates to prepare and submit generator interconnection applications.
  • Coordinating with utilities and/or ISOs to ensure on-time completion of interconnection studies and keep track of key milestones and deadlines. Provide estimates for interconnection process schedules and costs.
  • Serve as point of contact and coordinate with the development team to review utility/ISO studies and provide feedback on study results. In case of discrepancies, facilitate resolution discussions with internal and external parties.  
  • Facilitating cross-functional review and negotiation of generator interconnection agreements.
  • Coordinating with Longroad’s accounting and treasury teams to ensure timely payment of invoices and posting of financial security.
  • Understanding generation interconnection process and procedures to communicate security deposits, risks, and opportunities to the development team. 
  • Supporting development team strategic planning initiatives for project management and general business development.
  • Registering generation projects to participate in organized markets such as CAISO, ERCOT, ISONE, MISO, NYISO, PJM, and SPP.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Law 
  • 2 years’ related experience 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage and navigate geospatial data
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with others 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing prioritie

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA, JD) 
  • 4 or more years of experience in generation development, electric transmission, energy markets, or electricity regulation
  • Experience with electric utilities and/or ISOs/RTOs
  • Experience using power flow analysis software (PSS/E, PSLF, Powerworld, Tara, etc.) or ability to learn
  • Experience participating in stakeholder initiatives to improve interconnection processes
